By KIMBERLY EDDS The Orange County Register LAKE FOREST Nicole Catsouras, 18, of Ladera Ranch was killed Tuesday afternoon when her black Porsche 911 Carrera clipped a Honda she was trying to pass on the right at more than 100 mph on the Eastern (241) Toll Road, the California Highway Patrol said. Catsouras was driving southbound near Alton Parkway when she suddenly switched lanes and lost control of the Porsche, CHP officials said, and then cut across the center median, careened across several lanes of traffic and crashed into a tollbooth. The 20-year-old driver of the Honda was taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigation
It's a controversial topic and I certainly have my opinion, but given the situation-- and out of respect for those involved-- I think this thread should be locked.
WARNING - he's not kidding. These pics are VERY graphic. Do not open them unless you have a very strong stomach and are prepared for gore.
I have a teen ager who is just about old enough to drive. Pictures like these are useful in teaching kids that they are not immortal and need to be careful behind the wheel.
Well, hard to say ! You can move it to private section . . . However I don't feel rancorous . But it is very sad view , indeed ! It should be treated as a admonition ...
He did warn that the pics had specific content, and they did. Black and White pics might have taken some of the edge off of the gore(as seen in the California Highway Patrol magazines). Whether she was driving a Porsche, Toyota, it's the driver of that vehicle that made the tragic decision to pass....at 100mph+. Sad indeed.
I agree, as sad as those pictures are it is a stark reminder that even in a car as tough as Porsche the human body is still the fragile part of it. I always remember those photos of a Testarossa that destroyed itself and the owners some years ago at 300+kph and the poor driver was spread over a hundred metres or more I think those pictures need to be made more readily available to PREVENT future accidents from the younger brigade even considering how horrible they are ... I would hate for it to be my son or daughters
I can only imagine the horror and guilt the parents of this girl, who more than likely bought her the car. I can`t imagine having to ID her body. That said,it could have happened in any car, even a little crate can do 100MPH. At least she didn`t take any one else out. Another sad thing is,they could show these pictures at schools, but many of the Kids would still think to themselves "This could never happen to me".
For those who are wondering if any pictures are safe to look at: Picture 1 is of the Honda which was clipped. Pictures 2-4 are of the Porsche which has been flailed about. Pictures 5-9 are a human's head - now unrecognizable, which has suffered a worse fate than that of the Porsche's. Much like a shotgun went off at point-blank range. Sobering. Perhaps best for some to skip viewing until well after all Thanksgiving Leftovers are but a memory. My Pop made damn sure I saw his CHP mags for this very reason.
Apparently she took her father's car without his permission and had been drinking. There's no need to see the poor young girl's mangled body. The car's condition says enough... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Personally, I don't have an issue with posts like these. If you don't want to see it, you don't have to click on the link. Yes, it's a tragedy. Yes, it was avoidable. Yes, it's gruesome. Yes, it's graphic. But, I don't understand wanting to remove the links or shut the thread down. Some people say it should be done out of respect for the dead or the deceased's family. Others say it's morbid and inappropriate. Regardless, she's gone, and the only possibly good thing that could come of it is if others learn from her mistakes. There are sites elsewhere on the web devoted specifically to showing these types of photos, and people can choose to go there or not. Like it or not, though, we're all pieces of meat, and if we damage ourselves enough, we'll die. Good reminder. CW P.S. It appears as if the links are no longer working. I had seen these pictures previously elsewhere, so I knew what they were like. But, it looks like the site hosting the pictures has removed them all.
Very young kids with fast cars has never been a good mix. When I was in high school, all the kids that got Trans Ams found themselves walking within 2 months or possibly worse, not walking at all. My first car was a 64 Galaxy 500 with a rope holding down the hood and one needed to use seatbelts because the driver's door might not stay closed in cold weather during a hard right turn. Thus, I never did drive very fast. However, I did find out dad's Buick could hit 95 mph in a quarter mile.
So when are we going to see the lawsuit against Porsche, toll booth operator and the liquor company that made the drinks the girl consumed prior to ?
Kids and ANY cars don't mix. IMO motorcycles should be banned untill 21, maybe the same with driving. Also there is a need for a tiered licensing system. For every kid crashing and dying in an exotic, there are a 1000 dying in a rustbucket GMS or Pontiac Sunfire. Lets keep thing in perspective.
In Ontario, Canada, we have a 3 tiered licensing system. It works very well. By the time you are 19 is when you have a "full class" license. When you are 16 you are very limited since you are on the 1st tier. ie no highway, no alcohol, no night driving, and no driving alone. Very strict as you can see!
On Tier 1 (aka "G1" beginners permit) - No highway driving allowed - No driving with any alcohol in your system - No driving alone, must be accompanied by an adult - No driving from dusk to dawn Rules are in place until you pass your second test (after 3 months) and recieve your Tier 2 license, (aka "G2") The same rules apply for Motorcycles as well. This has been in place since 1996. (In Ontario only, not entire Canada).
Just great, I knew I shouldn't have looked at those photos before getting ready to enjoy a Thanksgiving lunch.
In my opinion, this is probably a step in the right direction. I can't tell you how many times I've seen teenagers run lights, stop signs, run over curbs, race down the road with their friends. Car accidents are a leading cause of death for teenagers. My heart goes out to the parents of that poor girl. That med was charged with picking up her brains off the street. I know I wouldn't want my childs pictures posted all over the internet with her brains on the ground. But then if it shocked some drivers into being safer, maybe her tragic death can save others. My wife witnessed a man hit by a car and watched him die up close and personal. He was severely mangled, but was still breathing. She watched him take his last breath and his flesh turn blue. Cars are a wonderful, and in some cases, beautiful pieces of engineering, but accidents claim 60,000 people a year. As many as were lost in Vietnam, every year. Scarey.
