My car is entitled to wear Col. Hoare's colours as it was campaigned my Maranello Concessionaires in the UK 348 Challenge Series (which it won). It is the only car carrying the robin's egg blue stripe that i will be able to afford!

Hey Pap, do you approve of the driving shorts in the middle picture? Sparco boots and Ripcurl surfing shorts? Not as cool as your jean shorts...

    Sweet ride!

The Brotherhood (including myself) are dedicated to fight the stigma on the model heaped on by the jealous owners of 3x8's and newer cars. Of course, Mr. Sheehan's comments didn't help much either. Nevertheless, we are out to show the world that the 348 is the best value for performance of all the production Ferraris, is fairly bullet proof (for a Ferrari), requires less maintenance (than people think) and easily modified. Further, there are many modifications one can make that will raise the car to (or near enough anyway) current levels of performance for semi-exotic and exotic cars at (comparative) reasonable cost. The car stands squarely between the seminal 3x8 line of V-8 Ferraris and the breakout 355 in every way.

    What do ya think?

Like your enthusiasm. To me the 348 is not about absolute performance - that will always be with the latest model. Look at the 599 - it just made the 575 HGTC a classic car. The 348 is about the feeling of driving the car. It is the last raw Ferrari.

I have no idea what Sheehan said. He is a real authority on Ferrari so I would need to look at his comments and their context

I remember when someone from Ferrari made comments about how the NSX made them rethink what a exotic car can be. The 355 was designed in response to the NSX in some ways. I was thinking and still think WTF? Not that the 355 isn't a great car but i'd always felt the 348 still had that exotic feel and look that a Ferrari should have.

What they should have been inspired by is the NSX's reliabilty and ability to run 100k miles with little or no maintainance not it's refinement and ease of driving.

Ok, I will try to summarize Michael Sheehan's (noted Ferrari broker, collector, judge and invesment advisor here in SoCal) comments about the 348 as made in SCM. He essentially panned it for styling and because the 355 is so superior. The side strakes remind him of an attempt at identifying with the TR and keep the car's styling stuck in the 90's. He gives the impression that the 348 was a step to the 355 and that's where u wanted to be. Also he criticized the engine configuration since a belt service requires an engine out (didn't seem to be as much an issue for him for 355's and 360's and he hasn't commented on the 3-year interval for the 360 vrs. the 5-year for 348's and 355's). Bottom line was for one to skip the entire 348 line altogether. He correctly criticized the earlier cars, but does not support buying the late model cars.

I am hoping we can change his opinion.

Oh, the ultimate ignominy - he prefers a 308 to a 348! Hey, they made 348 race cars too, Mike! Heh heh.
