As I stood there, over my sink, drinking a glass of water......I thought to myself how pure, simple and a fundatmental building-block water is. Our bodies are primarily made of it, we need it to survive and we regularly bring it in & out of our bodies. Just think about it's cycle....

The water you drink has been on the planet since the beginning, it may have been drank by a pharoah in Egypt, used to extinguish a fire during WW2, part of a cola drank by Frank Sinatra or touched the Titanic deep below the ocean. Just where has that water molecule been? Who or what else took it through their body? Could it have spent 400 years being tied-up inside a Giant Sequioa or part of the coolant in one of Enzo's first cars?

That water molecule has been around for billions of years and will continue to be around for billions more. Very similar to the air we breath and every other molecule around us.

The only thing more amazing then the world we live in, is our infinite ability to take it all for granted.

    Happy Thanksgiving everybody! :)

More than that, the heavier atoms in us and around us were formed in the hearts of ancient stars that went nova or supernova eons ago. We've all been through nuclear fire, literally.

And a Happy Thanksgiving to you!

Feel fortunate to be able to take water for granted: lots of people can't. In fact when you get down to brass tacks, it's water that will be the limiting factor of how many people we can stuff into this big blue marble. People talk about peak oil, but water is much more of an issue.

For example, here in Dubai they are sucking up the groundwater that took centuries to accumulate so that they can grow lettuce. Before you laugh at them, note that a similar phenomenon is occurring in the plains states of the US.

Be careful about where you plan to retire: make sure there will be water there.

Well considering the mouth is the dirtiest part of our bodies, I'm sure our asses are all happy that they had first 'crack' at the material being recycled. :)

Water is one of the only compounds that EXPANDS as it gets COLDER. Below freezing, water expands with enough force to break pipes.

also the only substance that can be found in three states (solid, liquid and gas) in nature.

In chemistry water is also considered a universal solvent. It is a great oxidizer.

On the flip side, chances are the water you are now drinking were in the poo of some hairy fat guy with BO at some point, and probably also were a major component in another old fat mans duck butter!

    Drink up!

If you are really interested in the complexities of water, and water technology, I suggest you look into Nicola Tesla (Никола Тесла) and other inventors, physicists, and engineers from the same era. There are many, many designs and developments that in theory are quite marvelous, and had they been well funded may have caught full sail.

Um...yea, the ocean. Distillation. Boil the salt water and cool the gas in a condenser, which will be fresh water. The salt is left behind. :)

Water AKA Blue Gold is an excellent investment for the future

Fresh water will only become more scarce & more valuable as time goes on and our population rises even more

I've already bought into companies that either own large water deposits or build filters for towns & cities

Bah. Acetone is a far superior solvent. Acetone will solvate basically everything water will and then a lot more.

And actually water is one of the most complex molecules known. For instance, there are actually multiple different states of ice. The type of Ice we know commonly is only the more kinetically stable form of ice. There are many other lattices that water can be in that are 1) more thermodynamically stable, and 2) more dense than liquid water.

Ice is only more dense than water under a very specific set of conditions, which tend to just happen to be common temperatures and pressures.

Also, water in your body is not only the solvent for which the bulk of the chemistry goes on in your body, but is also a reactant in a large amount of the reactions as well.

Water molecules are constantly being destroyed and created. There are always water molecules that are breaking apart due to the pH of the water, and those atoms/molecules recombining to create new molecules. This can be happening more or less depending on the pH of the solution, but it is always happening to some degree.

Many rules of chemistry are violated by water. Water isn't the rule, it is almost always what violates it.
