Fair enough. As I said, I pray for his and the others' recoveries, and I'll hope the article is inacurate, grossly inacurate. I'm sure he's a great guy, his posts seem to reflect that. DM
Eric - If I wasn't an Accident Reconstructionist. I would agree with you. But I have rang too many doorbells at 3am to tell Mommy there daughter won't ever come home, covered up too many 3 or 4 year old children dead on the roadway because of someone who decided to make a wrong choice. Speeding, reckless driving, or whatever. Maybe from seeing death every week on the roadway, it has made me not as compassionate as some to this. We all make bad choices at times in our lives, but it doesn't make it right. I would ask you this --What if that was your wife in critical condition right now?--would you still feel compassion for the guy because he is a member here?? If you can truly say -yes -then you are a great person, but most 99% could not.
No sh*t!! Who said that he was going 100 miles per hour??? A 23 year old female in a Honda Accord. Now do you think that she has the training to judge speed that well? Has she ever seen anyone actually doing 100 miles per hour? Is she mentally stable? Does she have a grudge against fast or exotic car owners? You guys are jumping to conclusions by the word of ONE "eyewitness". Yes, he was on a suspended license, which was bad of course but before anyone else says again that he got what he deserved, ask yourself if you have ever gone 5 mph over the speed limit, which is the speed he was actually estimated to be doing by Florida State Troopers. Zannos is one of the genuinely nicest guys that I ever met, so for God's sake let's hope and pray that they BOTH recover.
Robbie, yes I would........ I'm not saying at a later time I might need to be restrained. But, while injuries are still fresh and it was unintentional, I find no reason not to look at the big picture here. I recognize that you are a bit closer to this then most of us. But, I would think as someone who bases his conclusions on facts and not a few words in an article, you would use discretion. I too am thinking about all parties involved. I hope he gets out of critical care.
he left an 80 foot skid mark prior to impact and still caved in the front of his car and bent the frame pretty severly. I'm not a crash expert, but that much damage + 80 feet of skid marks = way > 70 mph. Two witnesses estimated his speed at 100 mph, according to the referenced article. Again, not trying to stir any pot, just trying to get the "facts as we know them" straight. DM Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
A 23 year old female in a Honda eyewitness trumps all our guesses. And if she was doing 65 or 70 and gets passed like she is parked it isn't rocket science to figure a triple digit speed. Yes we have all probably gone over the speed limit, I don't know about you but I don't do it on a crowded street with a suspended liscense and on a blvd with traffic able to make left turns across my path. Lets just be happy he didn't take out a school bus.
OMG...! No way...! I hope all involved are relatively okay and I wish them all a speedy recovery... Zannos is an awesome guy; I had the privilege of meeting him and his wife at Cavallino this year. I was looking forward to seeing them again. I hope he's okay.
I don't remember reading anything about her being "passed like she was parked". He F'ed up, I will admit that but we should have a little compassion for them both. He is a cardiologist for crying out loud. How many lives has he SAVED throughout his career?
Jerry. I think we all agree that Zanos is a good guy who appears to have f'ed up on this one. And, not to stir further, but saving 12,000 lives does not excuse recklessly endangering one life. We all hope and pray he recovers, and that all the other crash victims do too. How about we give this whole thing a rest until we know more about the condition of all the participants, and the facts (If they ever come clear) pertaining to the accident. DM
So because he has saved lives in the past as a Doctor, he has some sort of "credit" built up and can drive like a fool and possibly kill others? "...But judge I save lives everyday, can't you just let me off with a ticket? Sorry that reasoning doesn't work with me.
That's not what I'm saying for Christ's sake. I'm saying that those that essentially wish him the worst should show a little compassion as he has done throughout HIS life for thousands of others.
What Jerry is saying is that Zannos is a pillar (no pun intended) of his community and IF WHAT THE ARTICLE SAYS IS TRUE (big 'if' there), then we need to cut him slack because everyone makes mistakes. It's not like Zannos is some lowlife, running around selling crack, boosting car stereos and impregnating your underage daughters...
A friend of his pointed out that he may have been in a rush to get to an emergency at the hospital. I know I have been pressed more than once. aehaas
Actually, I think on those tires you could slide a few hundred feet once you broke loose over 70. And Dinos are not thick, rigid cars, are they? I could see it taking that damage from maybe ~25mph head on (against a car in opposite lane). A slide like that to the left makes me think he was trying to swerve to avoid an obstacle (car changing lanes in front?) coming on the right. I think this could have happened to anyone. All the best to the driver.
It appears Zannos Grekos also owns a restaurant called the Greek Gourmet in that area of Naples, FL. The restaurant is located at the street address of "390 Tamiami Trail" (which is the road the wreck happened on). Here is the newpaper story when he opened the restaurant in 2004: http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2004/oct/15/dining_out_opa_big_fat_greek_feasts_new_eatery_win/ The story says that his wife's name is Athina Krytsis and she also is a doctor, a pediatrician. Truly a sad event. Even though reckless driving may have been involved, I wish everyone that was hurt a speedy and full recovery. BTW, is car insurance coverage still active if you are driving on a suspended license?
On a brighter note, at least the News-Press referred to the Dino as a FERRARI 12 times in the article. I'm sure we've all already accepted the Dino as a real Ferrari, but 25 years ago that might have been debated. P.S. Godspeed and a speedy recovery to all involved.
Zanos is a great guy and enjoyed his company last year during Cavallino. We all make mistakes... Some bigger than others. That is life.
+1 Some are tryng and convicting him on 1 article. This guy is a cardiologist at first look he wouldn't come off to me as some outlaw. He might not have got a notfied yet that his license was revoked. I used to deal with Truck Drivers having thier licenses revoked and really not knowing till we had ran their MVR. More often than not it was something minor that was cleared up and license was reinstated within a couple days. The fact he is a doctor makes me want to give him the benifit of the doubt. like NNO said it is not like he is some lowlife. As far as excessive speed we are part of Ferrari Chat let he who is without sin cast the first stone. That doesn't mean I condone reckless driving I do not and if this is the case then we can get back later and bash. I would rather see him tried in court than convicted in the press.
Read that again.....285....she pulled in front of him, per my reading of the impact damage.. Yea, he was moving.... but SHE entered into his lane..... Sad result...as always...............
Yes and No, The "owner" of the vehicle is responsible for insurance. If he owned the vehicle, and his DL was suspended, he should have turned in the plates to the DMV. His insurance company should have been notified, and his policy canceled. It is a possiblity that his insurance policy had not been canceled at the time of the accident. I am not familiar with Florida law. He is gonna need a good attorney.
