hopefully not a repost. Do Ferrari shops do this too? http://mfile.akamai.com/12924/wmv/vod.ibsys.com/2006/0503/9152183.200k.asx
I saw that when it aired on TV and told a bunch of my friends about it, none of whom had seen it so thanks for the link! What a bunch of A-Holes!!
I have personally have caught crooks like these on my other car. They even try to cover it up when confronted....its pathetic.
I see a real decline in employee pride these days. It's all about the quick buck. I'm starting to get worried about who's building the new bridges, etc....
I get the distinct impression that this is the work of the district manager trying to increase profit in his region. I also think it could happen at any shop anywhere. It can be planned and organiszed by management, or just an apprentice acting alone thinking he/she will save the company a few bucks. When I was in college I worked at a gas station - the mechanic there would often do things like this... and worse.
I had that tranny service on one of my cars at Jiffy Lube and got charged $100 bucks for it. I didn't even think to check if that machine got used or not. They made me sign a disclaimer about changing the fluid too. Thanks for the post!
Its a lot deeper that just employee pride. The industry has gone over almost totally to either a straight flat rate system or a heavily commission based compensation system and with pay levels where they are it encourages this. To make it worse in most cases management does not care and turns a blind eye as long as profits are there. It is not all that uncommon at the lower end of the totem pole like the quick lube type business and decreases in frequency the higher in the business you go. In my experience though it is a real danger anytime you are using the flatrate system. I can remember when I was a dealer shop foreman I was solving a problem on a 456 and recomended to the front desk that this car needed a service only to be told that one of our flatrate mechanics had just finished one on it. It was impossible for me to tell anyone had touched it. His productivity level was so high no one cared and he is still a valued employee at a US Ferrari dealer (no longer in Ca).
The government should prosecute blatant acts of fraud like this. Granted, it is not a lot of money but nonetheless should be dealt with severely.
States with good consumer protection laws often do but in my experience they are very seldom reported so no one knows to investigate.
Not only do they routinely not do any work at all , but when work is done , it is a substandard procedure performed by flunkys that have little or no knowledge at all . Unfortunately I have seen this over & over . In the area I live in several engines a month are blown up because 1)the loser working on it never added the oil after it was drained 2) never tightened the drain plug 3) never put the drain plug in at all 4) left the old filter gasket stuck to the engine , installed a new filter causing rapid oil loss Thats just the oil change issues , coolant flushes are "performed " & the coolant is never totally refilled , system never bled causing subsequent catastrophic overheating . Injection cleaners that are sucked into the engine using any availible vacuum line causing hydrostatic lock & engine damage/ rod damage . The vehicle owners are out of a car while a investigative processs goes on internally by Jiffy Lube to determine if they are responsible . 99% of Jiffy Lube service bays are video taped so they know immediately if they are at fault or not . They just drag their feet .
