...no, IMO this particulary makes it a sexy car! The car looks from every angle just right! This is the reason why EVERY designer in the automotive industry loves the LP 400 as they whish they could get their radical designs into reality like Gandini did! Hopeless whish today...........!

    Ciao!

Well, at least the 400 sits high enough that you can load it into a furniture van. (see page 9)

    OUCH,,,,,,STOP,,,,,I WAS JUST KIDDING!!!
As Emilio and Ralph stated, they are of course wonderful and pure. My personal styling preference is for the S without wing and with Bravos. I think the 400 is to forward of a design to be on the Michelin's. Tall tires work on a solid axle Vette where low profile tires look awful.
I love the vacuumed stuck to the road stance of the S1.

The first wild Countach I saw was an early S, black, in Ohio on a dirt parking road at Mid Ohio Raceway.
2nd one I saw was on 279 in Pittsburgh on a trailer eastbound at the Ft. Pitt tunnel.
These are the only cars I definately KNOW when and where I lost my virginity. Can't say that about any other car.
Graduation from HS in 1979 may cement my preference too as the S was my lust car when it came out. (I know, sentimental buying is usually fatal!)

All that said, I would take that black LP400 you showed over likely any car in the world if it was to be a keeper, just being realistic that my chance of ever affording one is fleeting.

Yes, the LP400 rear is both svelte and sexy....the LP400S has more of a J-LO rear end...sexy today, but how will it age??? ;-)

Good report. BTW, the tall profile tires and lack of ground-effects front end of the LP400 means it can be DRIVEN in the real world over inclined driveways entering gas stations etc. PLUS, Michelin XWXs are readily available in brand new original spec thanks to the Ferrari guys. Just 2 of the practical benefits of the LP400 I like.

Its interesting for me to admit that I was hooked by the LP400 when it came out. But then the fat LP400S came and later the S and QV. Those versions really made "yelp - I want one!"

Much later it was much different. Now I consider the LP400 as the car to get. Perhaps its the somewhat strange mixture of this futuristic design and relatively standart tyres that gives the pure version its appealing presence.

Anyway, its a masterpiece of design!

    Ciao!

    Joe,
...imagine: the proto would be there and it came to sell!

Years ago I saw the 2nd green proto with AUTO SPORT in Modena prior to restoration after it came back from Sweden. The car was in complete but VERY tatty condition. Even in those days it was a bargain. Who the hell wanted an LP400 -"wreck" then???

    Long gone....

    Ciao!

Good points Emilio, and I do love the LP400S too, but, its aging gracefully is indeed a subjective matter amongst car enthusiasts in general (not just those who own one, or like them).

Rest assured, Im a lot older than anyone around here realizes....maybe IVE aged well???? :)
