    Hi All,

I remember reading a long time back that someone was able to get a comparable rental car to their insured vehicle while it was being repaired. Is this truly the case?

My Dino is in the shop and the other party's insurance (State Farm) has accepted full liability and they've offered me a "first level luxury car". Their rate at Enterprise is around $45/day. Enterprise has Elises for rent now and I'd love to be able to get one of those without shelling out anything from my pocket. Enterprise gave me a rate of $125/day. What are my chances of getting State Farm to authorize this?

    Thanks

Never tried it but I'd guess your chance is slim to none. Never hurts to try though!!

Worth a try but you may need to point out that you may want to claim diminished value on the car now that it has a accident history. In other words you may need a lawyer.

Years ago I had a Lincoln Town car that got sideswiped. I told the other party's insurance " I have a town car, I want a town car". Well, the local Hertz was out of Town cars, but offered me an Expedition for a week becasue it was the same rate. I took it, only cause I wanted the other driver's insurance to pay as much as possible for their clients negligence.

So in short, yes, you should demand a like and kind vehicle.

Same here. Wife got hit in the 530i. Their Ins Co wanted to put her in a Neon! I said uh-uh, she has to be in a comparable vehicle, they tried a Durango (nope), an Altima (try again), and a Town Car (uh no F'n way!). Finally found an Enterprise at the local Benz dealer and she got a C230. Still a POS but at least it wasn't a Neon! Definitely worth the extra 10 minutes of haggling.

Maybe I just don't get the notion of a "winter beater" -- I tend to think of a "winter beater" as a car than can actually handle winter road conditions, like a WRX or Hummer. ;)

Okay, an original Stratos Stradale would be a smidge pricy for a winter rat. (But I did check.) :p

My last four "winter beaters" were an Alfetta GT, a GTV-6, a Celica AllTrac, and an EVO. ;)

Hey, Lambos are AWD -- there's a "winter beater" for ya. (Heck, it's not like it's a Ferrari. :D)

Back to the topic: If you're dealing with State Farm, you can always try. They're pretty good on claims for their customers. I don't know how they are on non-customers.

    When I was with Commerce, I didn't even get a neon rental -- maybe that's why I got a "multi-car" discount. ;)

Four studded snows, 100 lbs bag of rock salt in the trunk, ABS and Traction control makes a town car go anywhere !!! LOL
