err, what? re BB fuel problem? I've done 500 miles in mine since it arrived now... love it to bits... starts on the first hit, idles cleanly all the time. I'm using BP ultimate with lead additive for now, seems to run perfectly so far... spark plugs haven't been out since 1999... should really have a look at them soon I guess... Rob... I'll do a comp test on mine for comparitive readings to yours... then maybe you can test the comp on yours... to see about your pistons... not that it's a definitive test, but an indiciation whether you've got hi comp or not.....
now now papster... sounds like that car was over driven at the wrong time and place to me... that's not what I do mate... you know that....
it's an original 1978 engine... and I've still got sodium exhaust valves too... so the additive reduces the seat impact and "hopefully" my valves will last until I rebuild the top end in winter.... But sure, once I've replaced valves, seats, guides etc, straight unleaded will be fine.
ah good, my engine's from '69/70 and always used straight premium unleaded without a problem, had me wondering for a sec
err... in that case you'll almost certainly need lead substitute to protect your valve seats if it's not been rebuilt/unleaded converted... if you don't use lead sub, the valves will hammer their way into the seats, prematurely closing up clearances and potentially burning out your valves... it depends a bit on the quality of the valves/seats and the way you drive it.... but for longevity, use lead sub.
fuel problem was cleaner turned on fuel cut off switch,no fuel.reckon my comp would be around 10.5 to 1 .gee still quick old thing got it rolling and at about 30mph nailed it in first WTF true supercar.so glad Im keeping her, just love the challenge of driving it fast.
you know i've run mine on standard Shell unlead and no ping nothing no run on.I Love My Boxer.Givern the BIRD ,Boxers ROCK.
you run it on 91 RON unleaded? Really? If it's not pinking on that, then you're missing out on even more performance with 98 RON and some more ignition advance!! also, smoother idling and cooler running. Anyway... it was missing that time you bought it in, remember... and shell is reknowned for being troublesome in carb cars. Even optimax ain't much good.
gave shell the arse, otherday low on fuel and only station was a Shell one and did not wish to put in their ethonel **** in car so put 91ron in.Missing yea carbs all out of balance, today took lids off and put tube to ear all throttles sounded diff and exhaust heat all over the place, needs tune, but reckon fuel issue has gone, been nailing her and seems happy apart from tune.
carbs don't go out of "tune"... ever... unless fiddled with, or in EXTREME cases, mixture screws can vibrate rich or linkage wear/problem (very very rare)... only recurring problem with carbs is dirt in idle jets, or wear/air leaks at spindles, or accel pump jet/diaphragm. If tuned correctly once, Carbs only need re-tuning if cam timing or valve clearances adjusted. Also, FWIW, my BB has worn spindles (chatter noise) but runs perfectly regardless.
no need to take accel jets out... if they work without dribbling they work.. simple.. and you can see by just looking with the lids off the air box only. idle jets most common to need clean out. Don't phark with it... JA will hang you!
I'm happy for my car to go on the run, even if I don't drive it or come along... if anyone wants to use it, they're welcome... providing I trust them. if yours is crap, take mine.
Ta but like you idont like driving others car.only taking jets out to see if they are blocked with dirt, remember i ran it a couple of times with the carb lids of.guys would love to see your car,non of the d/hs are going .
huh? when my car was in operation it would be lucky to go 6 months without needing a fiddle for optimumness.
3.30 am, top of the westgate bridge. edit... oh that's right... you crash them... sorry, you can't be trusted.
