I read the complete article. They state that the Bugatti is simply something else. After the spaceship, the 599 is the best "car" :D , at least in the straight line...

It would also be interesting to see some older cars in the mix for comparison. Where would the 288GTO / F40 / F50 come in as well as the Enzo. Would be interested to see a 84-91 Testarossa on the chart as well.

Not too ashamed - there's an 'edit' button, you know.

I'm impressed that the 599 edged out the Murcielago. So much for the "gentleman's GT" stereotype I had in mind...

the graphic with the cars position is a bit missleading. speed is one thing, what's the distance covered in that time frame? is that info available or collected? it would far more helpfull and accurate to also post the distance/time/speed. all those cars will accelerate at different rates. just wondering if that's possible.

otherwise neat, but i'd also like to see a few more cars on there as well. can't please 'em all.

The TR would lag behind them all. According to Red-Headed.com the early TRs would only be between around 120-125 mph.

The table below shows some accelleration times, all in miles per hour (1 mph = 1,609 km/h)

mph, Car & Driver, Road & Track, Motor, Autocar
    0-30, 1.9, 1.9, 2.2 , 2.6
    0-40 , 2.6 , 2.6 , - , 3.4
    0-50 , 3.5, 3.4 , 4.2 , 4.3
    0-60 , 5.0, 5.0, 5.3, 5.8
    0-70 , 6.2, 6.2, 6.6, 7.1
    0-80 , 7.7, 7.5, 8.4 8.8
    0-90 , 9.8, 9.6, -, 10.6
    0-100 , 12.0, 11.2, 12.2, 12.7

You just made me remember about that again.

When was the last build date? Was it this past summer? It escapes me at the moment.

The last Ford GT rolled off the line a few months ago.

One thing is for certain -- all of those cars are extremely fast. I remember when only a few truly amazing supercars could hit 60mph in under 4 seconds, and now there are a bunch -- a couple are even under $100,000!

So what? This test was in Europe for a European magizene, so they wouldn't care what was legal in the US. And for the cars not in production anymore it still would be interesting to see where they would fall in this test. The M6 might not bea supercar, but I'm sure it would be the Aston and maybe the Viper.

    Thank you. That confirms it.

Now, more on topic, why exactly they decide to stop the clock at 18.2s? Any reasons stated in the magazine?

Yes. That was one of the big performance claims released early on in develpoment: the 0-300km/hr mark done in whatever it was, which equates to 186 mph. 18.2 seconds is still absolutely ridiculous. That's when you start to realize how stupid fast this car is: it's not how fast it goes from 0-60, it's how it kees pulling from that point on. Do you realize that the corvette was more than half as slow to 186 than the Veyron? Geez...and that's still a 500 horse car!

Funny you should say that... a 500hp car about half as fast as a 1000hp car.. :)

I'd like to see a test like this with some of the 'ultimate tuner cars', such as the twin-turbo Ford GT, one of the many 1500-1700hp twin-turbo Vipers, and so on...

0-186 in 18 secs. takes the ballgame to an enirely new level: fighter jet level! I had my reservations but now I'm a believer.

The Koenigsegg CCR or CCX (which are practically the same, from the engine) would be interesting. It is almost as fast as the Veyron but with less horsepower and the half of the cylinders the Veyron has.

yes it's very very fast, but of course, 1000 hp and awd will do that for ya...how about a 3000lb car with awd and 1000hp...that would be something else entirely...

There are quite a few Skylines out there that meet those specifications easily :)
