Last night I saw The Gumball Rally for the first time. I've always been a big fan of the modern rally, but this was made back in the 70's, right?

    One...amazing cars from back then.

Two...this movie is really funny to watch.

And Three...absolutely awesome shots of these cars in action, it's like a porno for gearheads!

Has anyone else seen it? And more importantly, does anyone else have a favorite car/driving movie??

Absolutely 1 of my favorites and I agree, the best ever

LeMans by Steve McQueen is still Supreme however in its own category

Days of Thunder was not too bad

Gone in 60 seconds was so so but they had lots of great cars in it

I saw it last night for the first time too. Great flick.

The original is awesome. I saw it for the first time on Speed too. They also had a filming of special before, and knowing that made the movie more enjoyable.

The train wreck was a real wreck. They heard about it while filming, went down after the police finished, and adlibed the scene. The car chase was phenomenal. When he hit the pole on the side of the road, it was real.

I thought Le Mans was the best until I saw Grand Prix - even you haven't seen it - it was just released on DVD

    Grand Prix.

It just was ahead of its time for cinematography.

I have to agree-- Grand Prix is the best.

EDIT: Unless you're willing to consider Faster, which is motorcycles.

Agreed. Picked it up on DVD recently and was blown away. Love LeMans as well. Looks like Grand Prix will be next on the list to purchase!

Grand Prix is still the high water mark.

I always like watching the early part of Gumball, just to hear that Daytona scream through NYC -- even though it makes my face hurt from smiling. ;)

"What's-a behind me is not important." :p

But the films don't really match just getting out there and driving. :D

Not a film, but does anyone remember the Top Gear sequences on FWD/RWD/AWD car control?

The thing I really loved about the Gumball Rally was that Daytona sound in NY. Next time it is on listen to that thing in town. Amazing. Especially when compared to that Camero driving down the same street.

Last Aug I read a magazine that did a story on the Cobra and Daytona (two actually) used in that movie. Sort of a "where are they now" kinda thing.

I guess I lean toward the short films...all driving, no superfluous chatter.

C'etait une Rendezvous or Rendezvous as it is also called, is phenomenal but maybe ten minutes long. I picked up my copy at the Boston MFA Lauren exhibition last year for $25, but I think you can get them cheaper online.

Climb Dance is a widely available download, also an older film, but even shorter, maybe 5 minutes, but it's a run up pike's peak by Ari Vatanen, and never fails to elicit gasps from first time viewers as he drifts around corners in a group B car with the outside rear wheel hanging off the edge...

But most of McQueen's driving movies also agree with the wife's sensibilities, so that's a plus! Grand Prix hands down for full-length films.
