Both 550 and 355 prices have been going down for a while. Personally, I think that 550 prices will bottom at 40% of MSRP, which for the early 550s is about $85k.

I don't follow 355 prices (in large part because I don't fit in them), but I would expect them to bottom out at 40% also.

Many posts are questions I wouldn't have thought to ask (or search for) and many are thought provoking and interesting to the casual reader/poster (like myself).

If you are so pissed about "yet another post," why did you click on it to begin with? Don't your negative comments prevent an open exchange of ideas amongst like-minded people?

I think that's always been the case. Dinos and Boxers are heading up, 348 and 355 settling because they're now 'old' but not yet 'classic', 360 still depreciating noticeably as a used car.

I'm watching 550s -- love those cars, and once they get into new 911 territory I'm going to be very interested. IMO it's one of the great GT car designs of the past couple of decades.

Except brand new f-cars purchased at MSRP. They first go up (instantly) before they go down (quickly) and then start going up again (slowly).

 

So long as they continue to make newer models in the numbers they do, recent retired models will continue to drop as they have. It's all about the $$$ to corporations. They could care less how low their used car prices drop.

Given all the 'lectronics in recent cars, I wonder if older 550s will hold their value the way Webber and CIS cars have. (And what will happen when the surplus Marelli market dries up completely.)

 

I don't know... I'd guess Ferrari would be nervous about having too many "low-end" used cars around. The notion that every Ferrari is special gets some play on their Owners Website. Even Honda is proud of how well its Civics hold up in the secondary market.

Yes, I have that concern about all modern cars. Drive by wire, brake by wire, traction control... and we're all worried now about turn signal stalks on 348s. Child's play compared to an aging 360 F1.

With few exceptions... F40 are starting to go up... F50's are not falling...

But to your point, "regular production" cars fall until they acheive "collector" status. But, IMO, the pre-308 value curves can not automatically be applied to 3X8 and later cars due to higher production numbers (and increasing complexity).

 

Curious if anyone has any graphs or charts regarding the depreciation of new cars and their eventual bottoming-out and possibly appreciating nature. That would be cool!

 

A simple X-Y plot wouldn't really cut it -- you'd have to factor in the number of original and surviving examples, over time; and the public appeal factor (and press review) would vary as well.

Although I would like to dream that a one-owner '70s Alfa would someday be an even swap with a 550.

 

Yeah, you're right, but for an above-appreciated car, what does the trend look like over its life?
