You need to brush up on your history...the USA was the economic leader of the world well before WWII...and, the economies of the UK, Germany, France and Japan were all rebuilt by the USA after WWII...and from what I've seen fresh produce and meats are all sold in most large grocery stores, although some shoppers may chose to buy processed foods for convenience...again due to the time factor...it takes longer to shop for and prepare fresh foods...and even though most people agree fresh foods are better tasting and better for you, our work and receation lifestyle curtails our ability to do so every meal...hence the popularity of fast food chains such as Applebees, Longhorns, ect...

FYI, there is an NFL-Europe and a NASCAR-Europe with hords of Europeans trying to showcase their skills so they can hopefully move up to the big leagues in the USA...

Yes, and they both terribly suck ass.

I think log rolling is more popular than NASCAR in Europe.

Well, we can agree to disagree!!
You said " for over a century"; to me, that means at least 1906.
I do not wish to look disrepectful nor pedantic, but I doubt very much that the American industrial output and national GDP was superior to Britain or Germany at the time.
1906, was the year of the San Francisco earthquake for example, that created a depression in the States because of the huge financial loss caused by the insurance claims - for information, British financial institutions came to the rescue, Lloyds in particular.
The same year, the shipping of goods exported from the USA was a fraction of the British tonnage, slightly ahead of Argentine - amazing, is it not?

The American economy took an upturn during the first world war with increased industrial activity, progressed steadily in the 20s. With Germany defeated and paying huge war reparations, the French stagnating and Britain repaying the costs of the war, USA became #2 in 1929, until the Wall Street Crash already mentioned. Britain was living on borrowed time, relying more and more on the Commonwealth (colonies) to stay ahead.

The US economy became the world #1 probably around 1932/33, becoming undeniably dominant after WWII, being the only industrial nation not to have suffered war damage.

Nobody in his right mind denies that the USA rebuilt the economies of Britain (crippled by the war effort and the loss of its colonies), France, Germany and Japan, plus Holland, Italy, Denmark and many other countries.
Some people argue now that it was far less generous in real terms than previously thought, since the States could dictate the $ parity with other currencies. They claim that the American 'help' didn't cost them much since it ensured them a foothold in the economy of many countries.
This is an ungrateful attitude that I wouldn't follow.

Also, I didn't say it was impossible to find 'fresh produce and meat' in the States, only 'sometimes difficult', a slight difference.

    Question: Who plays in NFL-Europe?
Answer: People who can't make practice squads on real NFL teams.

Question: Can Nascar be popular in Europe?
Answer: No, there aren't any rednecks in Europe.

ONLY if the american press (ALL of it) chose to follow RB and JG, and after he finishes 20th for the 10th straight race, they will drop it.

Mario Andretti filled in for...... was it Pironi in 1982 ? U.S. press didn't cover him at all, and Ferrari over there (should) have more clout than RB would over here, by comparison. By contrast, the european press was all over Andretti when he did those one-offs.

When Michael Andretti moved to F1 in '93, everyone in the US forgot about him, and when he came back to CART he had to start at the bottom again.

MotoGP seems to be more popular than F1 in the US. And the percentage of American riders in the two sports are about equal.

The press didn't - they made fun of his every move (Michael's).

MotoGP MIGHT be more popular here - it kinda got noticed with Freddy Spencer in the 80's, but as far as the press is concerned, it's the same or less popular than F1, but that isn't saying much...

People just don't get it - it's a double-edged sword - you only get popular by press coverage, but you only get press coverage by being popular.
Think of Hollywood - who we see in the press is who the press wants us to see, think back a few years, all we saw was Racquel Welch, then Harry Hamlin, then all we saw was Michael Jackson, Two years ago it was all Jennifer Anniston and Brad Pitt, a year ago it was Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and now both of them are fading.......now it's Paris, Brittney and Tom/Kat.

It's all about the press, good or bad, you can't survive without it.

The press here switched to nascar, and the nhra, and then a HUGE gap back to anything else, IF there is anything else (in their eyes).
