I rode around the 'Ring in a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, and I think the lap time was about 7:50. I wasn't driving so I can't say that it was my time, but it is my prevailing experience. What has anyone else achieved in what? and when?

If you really went around the ring you would remember your precise lap time.

There was a video of a Porsche on here awhile back. I thinkit was touted as a record setting lap by a street Porsche. I'm not sure about the last though.

I'm certainly not an expert on the 'Ring, but I've done a good bit of track driving in race and street cars. I'm curious why if the 430 street car can do it in 7:55 (as reported in the last posted link), 7:50 in a 360 Challenge is deemed "BS" or doubtful. Admittedly, there are a number of variables that we don't know (driver, prep, set-up, light fuel load, tires, etc.), but 7:50 for a 360 Challenge (not a Stradale, mind you, but a full Challenge car, according to the OP), does not seem to be that far out of the realm of possibility.

I know we all take things written on here with a grain of salt, but at an academic comparison level, the 360 Challenge (with slicks) might be significantly faster around the 'Ring than a 430 street car (with street tires). It certainly won't have the grunt over the 430 in the straights, but around the corners, the Challenge car would likely be significantly faster. Also, the Challenge car would be lighter than the street car.

    Anyone have more info?

How much, if any, time penalty would you suggest due to the fact that the CS in this thread was supposedly driven with a passenger in the car?

I was a passenger in a 996 GT3RS driven by an ex FIA GT championship driver at the 'ring a couple of years back - we filmed the lap (allegedly) and watching the vid we recorded a 8min 32secs gate to gate (near enough a lap, and with speed up and slow down). This was the driver's 4th ever lap around the circuit, and when we finished up he decided it was his favourite circuit - better than the win he got at Spa.

I have been driving at the Ring since the early 80's and in later years made it a point to clarify this question by asking a few "residents" drivers. A couple of years ago, I was again told by Sabine (Schmitz of Ring Taxi fame) that all the serious recorded (listed) times were done on the NordSch. only, excluding the GP track.

To the best of my knowledge the fastest road legal production car on the ring is the Radical SR8 driven by Michael Vergers(28/9/05). In road legal trim and riding on Dunlop Direnza tyres he lapped the 13-mile Nordschleife circuit in just 6 minutes 55 seconds, knocking 20 seconds off the previous best!

As I understand it the Germans of course do not recognise this record because the car was not certified by TUV as legally road registrable in Germany despite it being registered in another EU state !

Lets just ask the most obvious question. Pictures. Who goes to the Ring and doesnt snap a single photo???

MOST IMPORTANTLY: who goes to the Ring and doesnt take a picture of themselfs and their time ticket, or the car, or SOMETHING...

BS - unless a picture is shown

I'm not too clear what you are challenging here but its not a drag strip so there are no print-outs supplied and most drivers tend to be too busy negotiating the quaint little curves for 14 miles to take pictures......

Very true, but it is a technicality. The Radical could (if so desired) get there on its own steam and leave the same way. That means road legal to me.
