Is it fun? Would you go? Have you gone? Is it a bunch-o-stuffy guys hanging around in ascots and blue blazers??! (No offense intended to ascot, blazer wearing guys) Stu
There's a competing event; The Palm Beach SuperCar Weekend on the same weekend that may be more to your taste.
Yes go to the Palm Beach Supercar Weekend you will not be disapointed. Besides if Jim G recomends it how can you go wrong.
Here's the 05 Event. This year's is much bigger and will be on the same weekend. http://www.palmbeachsupercarweekend.com/000_downloads/PBSW_PRESSKIT.pdf http://www.palmbeachsupercarweekend.com/ P 4/5 and 0846 will be part of this event this year. Babe wise this will be the one as well.
Isn,t the supercar weekend next weekend? The Cavallino Classic is at the end of Jan.My mechanic goes alot.He says there's alot of old classic Ferraris there. From what I read about it there are alot of ferraris in general there. He says its a good time.I may go this year.
These are two very different events. Cavallino in a world reknown event of many years, where only the best of classic Ferraris appear for judging. Supercar weekend is more of a local event, it never conflicted with Cavallino in the past. Last year, it was held at an empty mansion on the ocean in Palm Beach, mostly newer exotics that those of us in south Florida see daily, although it sounds like this year JG's cars will give it substantial credibility. Excepting those two cars, if you could only attend one of the events, and want to see classic Ferraris, then Cavallino is the appropriate event. The way the schedule reads, you should be able to attend both.
Ron This event has MAJOR sponsors. There will be MAJOR Cars there. There will be Major players from all over the world. It will be quite unlike past events. As Bob said: "The times they are a changing..." Best
ISNT CAVALINO THE SAME PEOPLE THAT TOLD MR. GLICKENHAUS HIS 0846 WAS NOT AUTHENTIC?? LIKE A MAN OF HIS STATURE WOULD WOULD TRY TO FAKE SOMETHING.. SO IF U WANNA SEE FERRARIS THAT ARE CAVALINO APPROVED.. IF U ASK ME P4/5 AN THE 0846 AT ONE PLACE.. BEATS ANYTHING CAVALINO HAS TO OFFER JUST MY 2 CENTS AND I AM A MEMBER BUT I LOST MY OTHER SCREEN NAME SO DONT THINK I JUST REGISTERED..
i have gone to cavalino many times and it has become a bit of a bore. i would go to the other one this year for sure plus i am going to where the action is p4/5 time. SENNA WHY ARE YOU TYPING IN CAP locks YOU BLIND
I can promise all of you who are thinking of coming down this year that the PALM BEACH SUPERCAR WEEKEND will be the event to be at. I am helping put this event together and I can tell you there are going to be some amazing supercars there plus tons of beautiful women and a bunch of celebs thruout the weekend.
My beef with Cavallino is simple. They published a letter from a reader that contained a clear falsehood about 0846. I sent them a letter pointing out that falsehood. This is not something that is subject to debate or is in any way opinion. This is pure fact provable by original documents and a ruler. Cavallino refused to publish my letter thus letting that falsehood stand. For a Magazine that calls itself: "The Journal of Ferrari History" to do that is very sad. That's why I don't go to Cavallino. For those who are interested in my letter they can find it on pages 110,111,and 112 here: http://www.glickenhaus.com/jim/project.pdf That said I really do believe that The Palm Beach Super Car Weekend will be a lot of fun and a bit of a different crowd than one will find at Cavallino. It's a big wide world and there's room for everybody but if you're looking for a wilder ride the choice is easy.
Unfortunately I have to agree that the Cavallino Classic has become a bit boring, less cars, hardly any tents with any significant memorabilia, artwork etc . to speak of. I wish the organizers would listen to suggestions and revamp the event to include more vendors. Aside from a handful of cars at the main entrance, there's nothing there you don't see everyday in Coconut Grove or South Beach. Maybe we're jaded here in miami but it would be a shame to see cavallino drop from the schedule, but they do need to offer more aside from the " regular " cars. Perhaps the addittion of an all Ferrari swap meet, art show, model event to suppliment it?
Here's something posted in another thread that is also an issue. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131203 " vern cornell Formula 3 Consultant Join Date: Jun 2004 Location: kalispell Full Name: vern cornell Posts: 1,184 I have attended several times over the years and it is organized well but, I have always felt uncomforable there, seems too snooty for me. That isn't a complaint just my observation. An example one time: I'm standing next to a trophy wife and her 25 year older other half and coming up from behind us is what is a beautiful noise coming towards us, we all turn to see and the TW says "Oh it's just a V8 car honey". My wife busts out laughing and says we gotta find a different crowd to hang with. Anyway being from Montana and not being able to get your cars down there we end up just kinda hangin' around which isn't bad considering the weather here that time of year. But all in all not the best time I've had at car events. Regards, Vern" Perhaps the mods could merge these two threads.
I think the O.P. started more than two! You know Mr. G., even after they PUBLISHED the World's Fastest Art Car they kind of said......"Hmmmm......." when they saw my non OEM paint on my application as well! Proud to join the list of your car and WILLIAMH as the guys "too far out there!" Even stranger, the Art Car IS vern cornell's old #22127! LOL! It is nice in Florida this time of year, the first wife used to take me to Key Largo to catch mahi mahi...........Scott would chase the iguanas.....and parrots. *sigh* Some bills are too high to pay............ Alicia B. is registered here....posts sometimes..........
Just to make sure there's no confusion, Ferrari P 4/5 by Pininfarina is officially approved by Ferrari and that is her approved name. As such she is fully eligible for Cavallino. My issue with Cavallino is solely related to their refusal to publish my letter correcting factual error that they previously published re: 0846.
If you want to see an assemblage of some of the rarest and finest Ferraris - many of the vintage variety coming over from Europe for the event - you'll like the cavallino classic. It's in a great setting. If you're going to people-watch you'll probably find it a bit stuffy, but I go for the cars and any owners I met were cordial and friendly. Combined with the track event at moroso on Friday, it makes for a fun excuse to go down to PB for the w/e. I gather the supercar weekend is just that. A gathering of modern supercars in a similarly glamorous setting albeit with more of a vip party atmosphere. It basically comes down to personal preference. Whatever tickles your pickle!!
