    Sheehan's description:

"U.S. E.P.A. and D.O.T. legal. California legal with CARB/BAR sticker. Red with black and red inserts. Factory air conditioning. Comes with a well detailed ownership history from new, and all bills and receipts for a recent (September 2004) major service with new cam belts and cam seals. One of only 272 288 GTOs built and one of only a few dozen that are California legal, making this 288 GTO the most rare of the road going Ferraris built in the last three plus decades. Mileage today is 8,724 km or 5,408 miles. Ferrari 288 GTO s/n 57715 is a magnificent example of the 288 GTO, and is ready to go. One of the few 288 GTOs that can be licensed in California.

    Priced right at $495,500."

    What do you think?

288gto COME TO MARKET SO RARELY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO GUAGE A FAIR PRICE...

I would have thought $500K was a bit high,... I would have guessed $425-450K.

It will be interesting to see how quickly it sells.

Disclaimer: I only know what I see...

    288GTO #57715 was for sale in FML in 2003 (vol 28, #16):

    *288 GTO, S/N ZFFPA16B000057715 (1985 prod.). Red with black leather. 7,130 miles. Exceptionally clean condition. EPA, DOT & California legal. 16" alloy wheels & a/c. $339,000. 8/03
Silicon Valley Auto Group, Los Gatos, CA 408-354-4000, fax 408-354-6285 (CA)

    Interesting to say the least....

Unless the "mileage" is actually KM's...

That would be my first thought. Original lister back in '03 mistakenly quoted the odometer directly, instead of doing a km/miles conversion. That would translate into an extra 1400km over the 3 years of ownership; reasonable.

However, I wouldn't generally expect SVAG to make those kind of "mistakes"...

I think the higher price is probably due to its passing the CA emissions. I'm not a pricing expert but I didn't think they were near $500k now. Then again, given how few are for sale at any given time, sure, it can happen.

It's a great sales technique, but whenever I see "Priced right..." my cynical gut reaction is to disagree. Then again, maybe it's just phrasing: for the seller, it is undoubtedly the "right" price... to make a huge profit!

Interestingly enough, I'm talking to a couple of parties right now about another GTO, this one is 52739, has 11,100km and asking price is also $495k.

I'm not aware of any others on the market, and at least one price guide put the 288's year-to-year price increase at 25% for '05, so I'd say that's not entirely unreasonable for a good car.

But then it's not my money either.

The car is in Km's and has a BAR sticker making it California legal.

The last car to trade about 6 months ago went for 395. It had been stored in someone's den, had <1K km and had been recommissioned for use.

They've picked up, but 500K is still high. Mind you Octane this month says that they are "undervalued".

In the UK, a similar low-mileage 288 GTO would be £225-240k..... Awesome and beautiful car, but what a difference 5-years makes......F40!

I prefer the 288 GTO to the F40 on the road. Of course on the track the F40 is better. Overall, I would take the 288 GTO over the F40 anyday

    +1

F40 is neat-o as a race car body, but lacks the mystique, beauty and stare appeal of the 288GTO for me.

That particular pair, with no US history, Italian titles and claims to being owned by Lee Iacocca won't sell easily at the correct market price of around $425k each, let alone $1.1 million! ECOCP paid a million for the pair according to reliable sources on the inside. WTF were they thinking!?

That is great news. Is there much interest? Looks to me like a nice car. I know that when I was looking it was really hard to find a simple no stories original car

Exotic Cars at Caesars is a joke. Enough said. Very unprofessional establishment from what I have seen, undoubtedly run by a bunch of idiots.

BTW, here is the link to the car on Sheehan's website:

Why don't you just donate the $20K. It will probably help reduce your blood pressure - priceless! :)
