That's a nice looking car! I wish they would have gone for the twin tail lights (they didn't to make room for the boot lid) but that's a nice looking car overall. I may even prefer the lines to the 430. I wonder how much it'll cost?

That car design screams "Maserati"...
and
not a hint of any "Dino" attributes.

 

Let's see what we've got here:

612 diffuser
F430 wheels & interior
599 grille, headlights, rearlights and flanks
360 Spider rollbars
etc, etc

Anyone who thinks this thing is real needs some very thick glasses. This is a badly photoshopped mixture of many official Ferrari factory media photos.

 

It does not makes sense to me, why a half price Ferrari at this point? The company does not need saving and it would compete with Maserati and Alfa. Why would Ferrari want to do that? It seems that Fiat has positioned its lines quite well.

 

A constipated one at that. It might be a design for TVR to study.

Hmm...something is beginning to smell a bit around here. Too bad because a cheaper Ferrari would be a popular concept around here! ;-) Time will tell if there's any truth to the rumors but for now, it's starting to look ike it's a hoax.

A hoax, maybe, but a great-looking one.

 

Not that I believe in this 'new' Dino, but I wonder what effect a new Dino, priced somewhere in the $80-100k range (I'm guessing based on the faintest suggestion of 1/2 the price of a F430 and the prices of the 246 to the 911 'back in the day') would have on the price of original classic Dinos.

My guess: a further quick bump upward.

 

maybe at first, but in the long term, no.

the again, the maserati name re-appearing hasn't done much for older maserati's either.

personally, i would love to see the dino name re-emerge, but i don't think it will. as for a new model, ferrari has played the "wait and see game" better than anyone else, i don't see another car just waiting to drop in the mix.

i was in italy in feb., i photo'ed the 599, the maserati coupe prototype and others. the prototype ws the leading candidate for the new dino, as maserati already said it wasn't going forward with the car.

having said that, alot of time and money had already been spent. when i got so excited seeing the prortype sitting on the lot, the tour guide said "sure, you can take photo's as this car has been abandoned for the testing of both maserati and ferrari". that says enough to me

Just out of curiosity, (and in response to your longer-term vision) are you a believer in cycles of value for older cars, or do you believe the quick bump will simply play into a longer appreciation climb?

 

i believe in a rolling cycle. it is simple and others have similar cylce theories, but i have always believed when guys get to apoint in there lifes that they have disposable income (ie- erning enough money, kids out of the home, etc) they will spend money on the cars they lusted after in high school. it seems to pretty much hold true. i am just waiting to see what happens to the cars from the late 70's to the mid eigthies, other than the exotics, there isn't that much greatness.

 

What effect is the growing wealth in emerging nations having on collectible cars? Do we see Dinos going to China and India like they did to Japan?

 

i don't now about china or india, but definitely to europe. not just dino's but with the dollar being cheap to europeans, there are good buys here in the usa

 

Just wondering if a few thousand new car loving millionaires will push Dino's to 500k. I guess the markets are not that open now but when they are.....maybe in 5years or so

Probably but Dinos hit over 200k a few years back.
In the last twelve months have prices not risen by 50%?
Dinos around today are much nicer than a few years back. Some of the ones I've seen in these pages are more like little jewels. Driveable jewelry!
Numbers are decreasing not increasing. So maybe a good retirement investment.
Trouble is French and Italian Villas are keeting pace. Maybe Croatia or Montenegro, but then again no, one would need at least a dino just to keep from getting bored or run from the bullets. Just rambling...........
