WOW that does suck. I wonder who is at fault here? I think there was 0 damage to the tractor, only the car was smoked.

I'd also like to know who was at fault, it doesn't look like an actual rally event...

Nomex, helmets, course notes: what part doesn't look like a rally?

You can close the roads at both ends, but when some farmer is trying to get from one field to the other ... This one looks like the organizers forgot to leave a message somewhere.

But the tractor should have gone for the inside line. ;)

The rally driver still should have been able to miss the tractor though,

Hey some people take their hobbies seriously :)

Also agreed that the driver should have been able to miss the tractor since the tractor was outside of the apex.

Look closer: the tractor was coming across a narrow bridge. The driver did at first start to steer for the inside line, but that would have put him up the creek --- literally.

He still should have slammed on the brakes and headed inside, better you to a few scrapes then total your front end. He shoulda honked too, didnt look like the tractor driving tried to avoid either.

Can't read anything on the website, guessing it's an amateur rally site?

Pretty sure no matter which way the tractor turned its wheels it wasn't going to be avoiding anything.

Sponsored jr-rally team in historic rallye. (Far as I can tell -- I can't read czech either, and it's not a language bablefish can do.) So these aren't the latest rally cars -- limited ability to pull to the inside of the turn.

It can be a lot of fun to push to the limits in a car that isn't so quick that an error will kill you. You don't need the reserve you'd leave in a "killer" (group) B.

There are more pix on their site under 2005 Rally Vltava. http://www.hrt.cz/foto05/Vltava/Vltava05.html

The car pictured here is an air cooled, rear engined Skoda S100 and it was built in the mid seventies!
My father actually had one of these many years ago.......although not for rallying ;) :)

    Hence "historic" rally.

Which is really depressing -- 'cause that was back in my day. ;)

I went looking for images of a pseudo Abarth Fiat 124 -- the kind of thing I used to "play" in ... and look what I found:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monte_Carlo_Rally
    1975
Sandro Munari/Mario Manucci — (Lancia Stratos HF)
Hannu Mikkola / J Todt — (Fiat 124 Abarth Rallye)
    M Alen / I Kivimaki — (Fiat 124 Abarth Rallye)

I was looking at the Abarth doing 2nd and 3rd (behind a Stratos, of course).

But then I noticed the codriver on Mikkola's Abarth.

    http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=profile&driverid=5801

It's like "six degrees of motorsports" -- it all comes back to Ferrari, one way or another. :D

But look at Monte Carlo 73:
    1973
    Jean-Claude Andruet/Michele Petit ("Biche") — (Alpine-Renault A110)
    Ove Andersson / J Todt — (Alpine-Renault A110)
    J-P Nicolas / M Vial — (Alpine-Renault A110)

Think maybe they might have won if they hadn't been talking about running F1 teams some day? :p

So the lesson for "future owners": Don't wait 'till you have a Ferrari to go racing. There are lots of affordable cars that you can have tons of fun in. (And there are still events around, even in the US.)

(And to think they used to say that the driver got all the girls. ;))

Yeah, I thought he was driving something with ABS in a recent car. With a Skoda though, I'm not surprised anymore.
