Just need to be religious about bleeding the air out the 365 cooling system, otherwise never been a problem
won't know until about 6.30 am on Sunday... Car is ready, clean now too. I filled it with fuel today (and put a pie on the engine for later while at the servo!)... I got 12.25 mpg on this last tank !!! Drove it back to shop, ate nice warm pie.
*gasp* i hope you mean U.S. gallons! so obviously YOUR car you drive slowly...you just thrash the customers' cars....right?
12mpg is good. I got 15 once, but 10-12 is the norm. 6-8 on a track day. If I'm on road test, I test the car. If I'm just commuting, I commute. Simple really. FYI, the pie shifted, but was still ok.... if that makes you feel any better?
sounds about right, when I went to Sydney few years ago,hot weather A/c on(LOL) the odd power run and sitting on about 120 to 130 ks got something similar.
I've been getting 16-18, didn't believe it at first but confirmed on subsequent tanks. Can only assume that main jets have been changed from standard, will have to check when engine goes back together. btw On tear down, found 4 pistons with broken rings and all gudgeon pins heavily worn. Very happy I decided to do the whole job now. Its only time and money after all
what type of wear on gudgeon pins...? thats unusual to say the least. Broken rings is pretty rare too... often sticky in groove, but broken? Has it been rebuilt before?
When our 365GT4 2+2 engine was pulled down (I think around 35,000miles), nearly every ring was broken. Had mainly been used around town I believe.
I think the last one - too rich at low revs? We didn't rebuild it, bought a brand new 400i engine complete and fitted that instead.
Gudgeon pins: suspected oilways blocked with Silastic or oil pump not making enough pressure. We're checking the pump at the moment. Lots of bits of Silastic in the sump. It is evil stuff. Better to have leaking cam covers than goop inside the motor. Better still to use Gore-tex gasket tape! Broken rings: Too much sitting around, car did 900 miles in last 10 years. Ian Gow had same situation with his car. Bloody thing had good compression though and went hard, just goes to show (a) how good these engines are and (b) when you buy an OHOS, always cost in a rebuild! No sign of previous rebuild, pistons original (ie. crap) everything else is worn to an extent that you'd expect after 35 years and 40K miles. eg. 3 thou ovality in the bores. Crank and bearings all good though.
Jaguar set to rumble amongst Ferrari carb cars. Now boxer is DNS don't think their is a car will keep with me on run.Just like Le Mans 55 to 57.
