Found this article, written in February 2004 on the market values of F40's, F50's, and Enzo's:

    http://www.ferraris-online.com/Articles/SCM_200402_SS.pdf

What are F50 prices at now? I can't even find any for sale... I bet of the 3 cars the F50's go up in value the most in the next 5 years or so... My dad is about ready to trade in his 360s for a 430s, but I think I am going to try sell him on the idea that the 430's will drop hard in the next few years compared to an F50... How is maintenance on them?

Forza recently did a market report on the supercars about 3 months ago, I believe they are going from $550K to about $750K, depending on common variables like mileage and records. I'll try and remember to dig out that issue when I get home and verify that.

Edit: Sorry, didn't read the rest of your post...from what I remember reading, their values have already reached the bottom of their depreciation curve and are only going up at the present time. Also, for maintanance, I suggest you check out this thread in the Australia section of the forums: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=127114&highlight=f50+clutch
It goes into great detail about a clutch replacement and tubi fitment, as well as a complete detail job on the engine and interior with excellent pictures.

First it depend what you mean by "go up the most". Do you mean a percentage of current value or absolute dollars?

I think % rise is the correct metric.

    Here's my take...

GTO (288): lowest production numbers or the 4... prices currently rising. IMHO this car will go up the most in the next 10 years (percentage). why? low production. I think 282 made... if 283 people want all 4 supercars in their colection this is the "can't get"

F40: rising. will continue to rise. due to relative high production numbers will not go as high as the GTO (at least for the nxt 10 years)

F50. will start a slow rise.

Enzo. basically flat, but may trend down a few %.

Remember this is my take. I think I'm right, but feel free to disagree...

I think I've already seen a US F50 for $750k. $550k is a very low number for a US F50 imo. There are a couple Euro F50s for sale in the US for $650k. The prices are still relatively low in Europe, I think even in the $400-$500k USD range. I assume we're talking about the US market here, but I'd be curious if there are clean US F50s for $550k here.

I was considering both % and dollar value. My dad right now in his 360 Spider does nothing but roll back and forth from the golf club which is less than a mile away from the garage. He wants to upgrade to a 430, but those are still at new car fad prices. So % wise comparing an F50 to a 430 spider its not even close... the only thing I am worried about is if it will be a pain to own maintenance wise compared to a more modern car... my dad really isn't a car guy and he get annoyed enough with all he has had to pay on stupid stuff breaking on the 360... if not for me he would just buy an sl55 or something.

If your dad isn't a car guy, why would he want an F50. Golf Clubs won't fit, and the car is going to cause a riot everywhere he takes it.

My F40 gets so much more attention than a 360 it's scary. An F50 will be the same way, perhaps even more. It will always gather a crowd.

As for maintainance, it will be high, and each event will take signif longer than with a 360.

If he's not a car guy... forget it. Just my advice....

Yes, I think you're right. :( I just hope that by the time I can buy my own they will still be in one piece and the prices won't be astronomical. Thanks for your thoughts.

Consider yourself lucky you don't consider $700K astronomical. I've thought about buying one, but for me it would be insanity...

Ha, well I was just thinking why pay $250k+ for a F430 on eBay that will be worth $150k after the new model comes out when you can get a F50 that will likely be worth more than what you paid for it even after you pay to have all the services done. But, you're right, you really have to be into cars to do that... because you shouldn't buy a car just to make money, that should just be an excuse. :) Your F40 looks great btw.

Thanks. I love it. I feel VERY lucky to have her!

It seems I view some high end cars in a similar way as you... why buy one that will depreciate when I can find one I love just as much that will appreciate.

If it makes you feel any better, the $500k premium it would take to put your dad in an F50 would likely earn more money in an investment than the F50 is going to appreciate during the same time period. As Simon said, I can't see your dad being happy with an F50 given your description of him. An F50 is a car for "car guys" who will put up with a complete lack of practicality and the expense of the car because they appreciate the F50 for what it is.

maybe i should start my own mdm :)

bingo sports have one. 9000kms going for 39million after tax (37 for export) which is about 240k USD
www.bingosports.co.jp ,bad website but thats common, no link to actual car but they have it (tokyo showroom)

would also try contacting artsports. they deal with a lot of new/bling exotics but could pull one GTO out of nowhere (customer garage clearance) :)

oh and keep checking these sites. both are linked so dont be surprised if you see th same car. they auction exotics so..............

Make sure the 30K service/10 year service is done. If not it can cost you between $100,000 - $150,000!!

Where on earth did you hear that?

Dashboard replacement is the most common problem, but that's obviously only if it dies on you.

And that reportedly only costs about a tenth of the price of the said 30K service, if that's accurate. About $10K I've heard. I've also heard it can take several months to get it back from the factory, though.

Well a 30K on an F50 per the US manual is nothing major :)

Replace: Oil, Air Cleaners, Fuel Filters, Spark Plugs, Gearbox/Diff Oil.
Inspect and Adjust: Valve Clearances, Generator/Temp Control belts.
    Inspect: Lots of other stuff.

The biggie is after 10 years the service guide says new fuel tanks at 10 years. Althought I'm sure there are some special prices for F50 spark plugs!

I have all the super car manuals from owners.ferrari.com some interesting stuff in there. Plus the 250LM manual which is cool.

For almost the same money, you can have 2 different colored F40's. Now, that brings a smile to my face!

The service prices quoted on here always crack me up. NOTHING like the real ownership costs. I did all the work on this thread plus a major service and several fluid changes for a fraction of the money you are quoting: http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=127114

The tanks can be re-certified and the dash can be fixed in America if required.
Spark plugs cost $236.64 Australian for a set of 12. See attached invoice for a full inspection and service.
