Any one who has changed compressor without taking out the engine? Need some advise. Guess I have to connect the A/C hoses before I mount the unit in its place? They seem rather short though. Seems hard to tighten the hose connectors since they are on top of the compressor. It sure is difficult to reach the upper part of the compressor from underneath. Thanks in advance. B
Dont say that mate. I may have to replace my 2 hoses. Will look into it next week. Let me know how you go.
Can't help you on details, but in summer I suspected my compressor was leaking and enquired at the main dealer. They said it is a fairly straightforward job done from underneath the car with engine in. (My leak problem sorted itself out, so I never went down Replacement Road)
Hoses on compressor first. Fit compressor. Then hoses onto the aluminum lines on top by right valve cover last.
Yes sometimes... but orignal poster said "They seem rather short though. Seems hard to tighten the hose connectors since they are on top of the compressor." This implies he may be short on tools to access so hoses on compressor and feed the compresor up with hoes to the top by the valve cover is an easy way to do it. Access to the top connections are so easy you can use a cresent wrench. I can't remember the connection accees from the bottom is like. I don't use A/C it weights too much.
Thanks all for your comments. Didnt know it was so easy. Ive fitted the compressor and will now try to fit the hoses and the electric connection. If I do not manage I will try the other way with hoses first. As a bonus I now can change the alternator belt in less than 10 mins!!!! I read in the work shop manual something about a certain tension. Must admit that I didnt bother too much about that. Guess the tension is ok if it feels ok??? It isnt cruical is it??? Best regards, B
