206 GT Manual..how many are there??

Aloha..I've seen at least 6-10 206 GT manuals on e-bay in the last year. 150 cars...how many did they print?
The one I bought had a greenish cover and some of the printing and logos are different from some others I've seen, yet both have the same code/date number. Others are blue covers.....
anyone know anything about this?

if you look at the ebay auction, it has the 246 insert. keep in mind early 246's used the 206 manual,clearly indicating that production exceeded 206 cars.

 

I've seen three 206 manuals

1) a pale green/blue cover without a pouch
2) a pale green/blue cover with a pouch and a 246GT "L" insert
3) a light green cover without a pouch (looks like it might be a repro) but it is the right size and shape.

I only own the middle example but I've owned the other examples at one time or another. I'd be curious if anyone else has seen the third example.

I own a copy of the third version, but to be more correct, I think it is the first version. if you look, it has a binding more like late 60's ferraris- with staples. the blue green version has a perfect bind just like all other later dino manuals.

if this is the firat version, the blue green version would be second and the pocketed book would be third.

 

There is 206 Scaglietti parts book with a green cover and legal sized sheets that is stapled with black tape on the edge. I didn't count that as a manual but I have one of those and they are real.

The smaller format Ferrari 206 manual I spoke of is just an owners manual and there is something unusual about the photos if I remember - they look more like copies than originals.

ok...I'm going to put up fotos tomorrow of the differences...my original blue manual is water frozen closed....but the covers are in good shape.

keith, we are talking about the same manual. it is slightly larger in width than than blue green manual

The lime green version is a reproduction. The illustrations, the green box around the Dino and the coloring in general just didn't have the fit and finish of the original, turquoise 206GT manuals. This is reflected in the price when these trade hands.

My $0.02.

 

I have owned quite a number of the lime green #3 manuals. I purchased 10 at one time. They appear to be FACTORY REPRINTS. You can see the difference when you compare them to the original aqua color manuals. The photos look like copies.
I have owned a few of the aqua #2 manuals with the pocket and including the 246 supplement.
The rarest manual is the aqua #1 manual with no pocket.

I would believe the manuals were released in this order.
1) a pale green/blue cover without a pouch
2) a light green cover without a pouch (looks like it might be a repro) but it is the right size and shape.
3) a pale green/blue cover with a pouch and a 246GT "L" insert

i thought the same thing at first, but these actually trade hands for more money (i am not justifying it, just noting from ebay auctions - which granted, could be dumb buyers). check out this ebay auction:

the item has been available for sometime, yet, the seller is top notch. i am not sure of the origin of this book or its value. i do know if it is a repro, it was done in the period. my book came from a collection and the seller was quite certain it was original.

 

It's a tough call to make. I think you and John are probably right about it being a period reproduction. Reprints aren't that unusual - Marparts (Maranello Concessionaires) did reprinted manuals and I believe the Ferrari Owners club in the UK did reprint brochures for the 250LM at one point. Either way, there was something different about the lime green 206 manual that says reprint when compared to the bluish 206 manual.

Somebody out there will know the history of this thing. Either way, it's nice to have one in your collection.

This lime green manual is common. It is a FACTORY SECOND ISSUE from the same period. It does carry the factory literature number. I call these reprints. There were so many printed it isn't hard to find one in as new condition.

 

Aloha...here's the fotos of the FAF photocopy, the lime green one that has staples and is glued, and my original water-logged blue one...notice the different Dino logos on the back and the lack of chapter numbers on the green one. The size of the green one is bigger to accomodate the staples.
The FAF must be copied from the blue one that has the chapter numbers.....can't believe I'm going into these details...but when I got the green one I had to wonder..

it is funny we both have water damaged blue green manuals and good lime green ones.

it is my belief that the lime green one is some type of factory "second" edition. however, i have heard from others that this isn't the case. i have one in my collection for reference purposes. like i said, the version i have is old and from the period. i doubt there were "copier-type" machines at the time in italy. from what i can tell, it was printed using a blue-green version as a guide. by whom......that is the question.

 

for entertainment purposes, i pulled both versions out to look at. one thing that is interesting, is the lime green version isn't a direct copy of the blue-green version.

there are many deleted items that wouldn't copy well. all the black and white photo's are qaulity b&w in both versions, but the "teal" boxes and highlights and etc..... are not in the lime green version. based on the age, someone would have had to typeset the print pages and not copy them, as we would today.

i know there are several "lurkers" here who have made these types of things their hobbies. any feedback would be appreciated.

 

I think both the green and blue are actual prints......I saw printing smudges on my green one....and my blue one has some sort of protective film over the blue covers that the water didn't hurt....the green one doesn't seem to have that protective film on the cover.....my blue one had no staples...when I opened the green one it seemed to be stuck and then I saw the staples. Looks like someone didn't want to take the time to bind it properly so they left it a bit wider and put the staples in to make sure it stayed together. The FAF copy must be from the blue one..you can tell by the chapter and section numbers that are not in the green one
...and the most interesting thing to me is the change in the Dino Logo on the back cover.....what interesting things we focus on in America in our lives......

Why do the others believe the lime green manual is not a "second"?
All Dino original owners manuals are glossy covered. The 275 and Daytona original manuals are glossy covered. The 275 seconds are not glossy covered. If Ferrari wanted to make a pocket and a 246 supplement in an orignal 206 manual which one did they pick?
