I think it depends on the model. For BMW, I think the M1 would count. For Porsche, I think the 959 would count. Many people, including myself, see an exotic car as one that not only has great performance, but is of limited production. That's one of the things that makes a car "exotic", that you don't see one around very often. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
No. But like the previous post, maybe something rare might. I have a BMW 745Li and a 997S Cabriolet. These are both great cars but let's face it, they are falling out of the sky. I think exotic somehow also means a more limited production car with some pedigree to it. Oh, and let's not forget expensive. :~)
Is a FIAT Dino an 'exotic'? What about a BMW 507? A 2.7-litre Carrera RS? How about a real 550 spider?
Some Porsche that I consider exotic are Carrera GT and GT2 because they're expensive and I don't see them often. Other Porsche's like cayman, Cayenne, and 911 Carrera S aren't anymore because there's lots of them in my area. Some people still consider them exotic though. As for BMW, I think its the M and 7 series are the ones that I still consider exotic.
Depends on models, M5 and M6 from BMW are exotics. For Porsche, the 911(and its many variations) and the Cayenne are exotics. My question is, is a regular Corvette a exotic?
I'm gonna have to say that a regular Corvette to me is not considered exotic. Not sure if I should consider the Z06 an exotic?
M5 and 6 are no way an exotic. High performance cars, yes. exotic no. There are a number of exotics from each manufacturer, but the normal products they produce do not constitute an exotic. Darrell.
I concur. But let's say "great performance relative to its contemporaries." A Boxer can be beaten by a good number of modern cars, but in its day it was a world beater. Move to San Diego. BMW 7 series are pretty much everywhere, despite being expensive. Same with the M3: great cars, mass produced, very common. The problem with the GT2 is that unless you're a Porschephile you think you've just seen another pimped out 911. The CGT seems exotic -- rare, expensive, foreign... Also, with Porsche building SUVs, $40K Boxsters, and now possibly a sedan, I think it's going mainstream enough to fall into the BMW/Mercedes/Audi category, whereas Ferrari, Lotus and Lambo really only make fast/boutique cars. Somehow neither Porsche nor BMW really comes across as an exotic marque (I've owned cars from both and enjoyed them -- just never got the attention any Ferrari does.)
you can strap a rocket to a turd and make it go fast............that's what I think when I think of a Corvette
No. Consider it a Chevy. Well, the Corvette is a seriously good car in some ways. But, it is built in Kentucky (exotic?) and serviced at the Chevy dealer alongside Trailblazers and Monte Carlos -- which are seriously bad cars in any way I can think of. I think "exotic" means built in limited numbers by a small manufacturer. Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lambo, Lotus -- tiny companies compared to the GMs and VWs of the world.
I would say Carrera GT, 959, 356 Speedster are the Porsche exotics Z8 would be the only modern BMW exotic
Too many foreign marques have gone mainstream. Jaguar, BMW, Porsche included. American manufacturers have never produced an exotic.
Disagree- here's one of a number. In 1914, it was capable of speeds close to 100mph. Image Unavailable, Please Login
in Europe ,Ford F350, Hummer or Mustangs are exotics... Depends were you live...in Monaco or in Dubai a Ferrari are not very exotic
A couple more American exotics (sorry, not meaning to rub it in, you just got me goin'): Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
