i did the drivers side oil return tubes a few months ago. this weekend it was time for an oil change , so i decided to go ahead and do the passenger side tubes today.

its best to squash the old tubes flat with some large pliers.

i then cut them in half with sheet metal shears and they will pop right out.

i lubed mine up with some Dow Corning 111 o ring lube.

it takes more time to wiggle the little bastard snap ring into position than to do anything else. once they are in thier goove with the tubes seated, i tie a loose piece of safety wire in the holes to keep the snap ring from moving around. its imprtant to not tie them too tight as they will loose thier grip in the groove. the drivers side was a bit more difficult , i am glad i did those first!

from start to finish it look me 1 hour and 15 minutes including oil / filter change and jacking / lowering the car.

    some pics!

    Nice work!

Love the 78-89 911s.....and the 78-89 930s also...everytime I drive a 930 I keep saying to myself why am I looking for a Ferrari-especially when the maintenance factor is thrown in????

So Mike, how do these 2 fine steeds compare? Have you done any other work on the 911????

i will admit publicly how wrong i have been about the 911.

i never liked them much , but i had no reasons as to "why".

my friend Joe ended up with this green euro spec special wishes Carrera. i had recently sold my lambo jalpa and was bored.

    i bought the 911.

the car is on ferrari ads, but i may as well pull the ad. truth is i will never be able to buy another car for $18k thats as fast and dead reliable as this 911 has been.

i know the euro 911 carreras have a different engine, and mine has a different "german" gearbox with different ratios and a factory transaxle oil cooler. this thing is super fast. i plan to send the black box out and have a chip put in it. when the car was brought in to the USA a USA engine computer was installed. the cat bypass, the idle air control valve and mass airflow meter are all new now. this little car screams! hell i even put in a new O2 sensor, and it runs even better !

i am torn on the exhaust question. it has the stock , heavy factory single exhaust. i think SSI duals would be even better. i need to take some pics of the underside of the car. the transaxle cooler is a cool looking, smart design. the engine oil cooler is this huge gold thing in the right front wheelwell.

we fixed the a/c in the car, then i came to realize that 911 a/c really sucks. at least it works, and i have the power sunroof too! i dont use a/c as a general rule, as i work outside on aircraft most of the time year round. you get used to the ambient environment i guess.

i have always worshiped the 930 turbos from afar. never drove one. i really like the slopenose cars too. the only thing that turns me off is the CIS fuel injection is a freaking nightmare to work on or troubleshoot. the Motronic in my Carrera has been pleasant to deal with, and i prefer carb cars! maybe i will get a turbo one day.

the 308 and the 911 are very different cars. i would love to add a Jalpa and a Lotus Esprit and not sell anything i have. but i doubt thats possible.

to all the Rennlist and Pelican Parts guys out there, thanks for all the great threads that have made owning a 911 a real pleasure. theese Carreras are marvelous cars!

    michael,

glad the 911 is winning you over. correct, there is not a better, more capable, and cool car for the money than the 3.2 carrera. on the sound, put a borla single outlet on it and you will melt over how cool it sounds! i am sure you will find one or a similar b&b on pelican parts...headers too!

anytime you want to invest some time in driving up to charlotte, you have all the time you will need driving my 30k mile 930 hot rod. the car will leave your knees weak!!!

open offer...just need to remind you perodically.

    happy holidays brother.

:) i have 12 days of vacation coming up.... i may find time if you are not busy with family to hang out with the cars!

we did a fun run today consisting on my black GTB, my old red GTB, a Lotus esprit se, caymann S, a 87 930 with a few mods, and a bmw 635.

we had a blast, broke no sound barriers, but had a fun time just driving. i fell in love with a carb GTB all over again. went though a whole tank of gas in one day, and the car LOVED IT! car runs better from the exercise.

i am going to take the 911 on the next fun run. the 930 spanked all of us.

i wish the other cars we invited had come. :)
