    Hi Folks,

Per my college graduation, I have requested a watch as a gift from my parents. I am picking it out because my parents will buy me a casio or the ugliest timepiece known to man. The thing is, I know nothing about watches, but I do like them.

I am looking for a stainless steel band, with a gold face. I dont want it to be super flashy gold just a light color gold. If you can't find that, a white or silver face will do. I prefer a standard watch to a chrnograph but am willing to look at both. I don't have a brand preference. Price ceiling is a hard $2k. So please dont waste your time showing me watches that are $2199 etc. etc. I appreciate the work, but it wont do me any good.

I trust I have come to the right place.

    Thanks.

You can get many Omega models for less than USD $2k in the states.

I was just going to say Omega.... nice watch and they can be had for your price range and they actually have value, unlike Movado and the other quartz junk.

You could also look at Breitling. Most gold is quite light - the darker colors are usually called rose gold, which is quite orangey, even copper colored.

i think you should do as advised and contact luxury bazaar and see if they will make you a nice deal on a breitling chronomat ...possibly even a used "inspected" piece.

they will treat you well and will likely give you some price relief if you mention f-chat. 2k may get you close.

Yes, plenty of nice Omegas and Tag Heuers available in that price range. You could also bag a pre-owned Rolex Submariner or GMT Master for similar $$.

    Cheers,

I just picked up an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean to bang around. It has an orange bezel, dark blue/grey dial, and is 45.5 mm. Got a smokin' deal on it to boot. Good luck.

    A blue/grey dial?

Are you sure it's real, the Planet Ocean only comes with a VERY black dial.

Doubt you can get one (except a canal street special) for under 2K.

Peter - I like the PO, but I cannot get my head around the steel band; with it the watch looks too 'domey', for lack of a better word. But the neoprene/leather band looks flimsy and cheap. Why doesn't Omega include a thick, meaty leather strap ala Panerai for the big PO?

And on that note, have you ever seen a 2531.80 on a strap? I have a cool vision for the watch with a tanned, thick, stitched strap - is it possible?

Hey Peter, maybe its time for another LASIK surgery. I keep looking at this watch and it looks like a very dark blue/dark grey color---who knows, maybe it is black!!!. I purchased it from a very reputable dealer.

First off, please no Tag Heuer, I like them, but over the years have become so generic, and now I see them everywhere and people buying them have no real idea about watches...

o well, I would go for ORIS in that price range, getting popular as I have seen more ads in the magazines geared toward the 20-30 age group. I have one of the divers model, and beat it up. Never had a problem, all ORIS are automatic as well, which is what you want if you are going to go in this price range, they have a great seleciton too also geared toward racing heritage.

Good work guys. I like the Oris the best. I went on the Omega website and really only liked the Seamaster Aqua Terra. All the other ones seemed to have that numbers going around the watch in plasic (I'm sure there is a name for whatever that is) not really my style, but I'm super picky about everything. Keep em coming. Thanks.

Good used one with date is going to bring at minimum $3500 anymore. We have sold 6 in the last 9 days at $4k. Tag Heuer Carrera is a great piece for under $2k.

I have the 2531.80.00 and couldn't really imagine it with a leather band. I think a rubber strap would be cool though. I can't see the point of having a high water resistant or diving watch with a leather band when you can't get the leather wet. Also in hot / humid / wet climates the leather would be less than ideal.

Is this what you mean by "neoprene/leather band... flimsy and cheap"?

I just got a black bezel Planet Ocean on rubber strap for one of my good friends to give his dad for Christmas. He seems excited.

I sold my personal planet ocean (orange bezel / steel bracelet) because I didn't find it comfortable. I thought about getting the rubber strap for it, but never followed up.

Yeah, that one. It's actually sort of disappointing in person.

It's a beefy watch, mine even felt top heavy with the bracelet.

The strap on the GP ww.tc in white gold is WAY too small, that watch just tips over itself because the case is so heavy and the strap is so skinny. The newer versions have wider straps though.

I don't see them making a panerai like strap for it though. I don't think the space between the lugs is large enough. Problem with the PO is that I believe it was designed to be both a 42 and 45.5mm watch, and the lug size is the same for both. If they did it correctlyt they should have used a larger strap on the 45.5mm. I could be wrong though, I'm just pretty sure they both use the same size straps.
