Just curious to hear any experiences of this if it was worth it or an eventfull trip.
I haven't, but Darth keeps telling me about this 5lb cheeseburger... apparently if you eat it all in a certain time, it's free! So, I'm going to start with that and work my way up to Everest.
I climbed Mt. Halla in Korea last year. Fuji is on the list for 2007. Nothing to dangerous for a fat ass like me, but still fun.
I once took 3 advils when the bottle clearly stated to take 1 and only a second if the first didn't help. If that's not living on the edge I don't know what is.
I completed a Decathlon (track and field) in Virginia, in August, during a heat wave. I tihnk my score put me in the top 15 for high school decathletes. I consider that an accomplishment.
My uncle and cousin went there, but only to the first base. They just wanted to see it and not go to the top. My mom, her brother (same uncle), another sister, etc, went to Argentina and went to some mountain there. They also all went to Mt. Kilimanjaro and they're about to go to Ecuador for some hiking in a few days. I went once with them, but that was only to Mt. Washington. They went to Moab in Utah, too, but not sure if there really any peaks there.
I went sky diving once. Best thing I've ever done. I also go hiking a lot in the Superstition Mountains here in AZ. Supposed to be some of the most rugged terrain in the county, but I'm not sure about that. I love it though.
I've done a fair bit of hiking, but nothing that notable - highest mountain I've hiked is probably only about 3000 ft I've always wanted to sail a yacht across the Atlantic - that'd be cool...
A really close friends parents are climbing Mount Everest as we speak. They are climbing to 1st base. They are 50yrs old and they have done many cool adventures here and around the world. But I think Mount Everest will be the highlight I can imagine.
That is on my friends parents list also. They want to sail around the world. After they climb Everest.
Did anyone else watch the special on Discovery about the group climbing Everest? It's amazing that there are guides who will let just about anyone with enough money make an attempt... and that it had become bad enough that there was a TRAFFIC JAM on Everest because of a group of climbers who were incapable of moving. I'm a skydiver and a BASE jumper. I doubt I'm fit enough to climb Everest... but might attempt it some time in the future if that changes.
jeff, when i started cycling and then competitive cycling years ago, it was with the intention of doing it to build fitness for everest. i ultimately decided that no matter where i stood w/ my fitness, there is so much luck involved in that climb that i would not consider it seriously anymore. just a dream for me but no longer a powerful calling anymore. pcb
I have climbed Mount Cotopoxi 19,388 feet in 1994 Mount Kilima-njaro 19,340 in 1996 In the states over the last eight years or so Colorado 14ers Rank Elevation Mount Elbert 1 14,433 Mount Massive 2 14,421 Mount Lincoln 8 14,286 Grays Peak 9 14,270 Torreys Peak 11 14,267 Quandary Peak 13 14,265 Mount Cameron * 14,238 Mount Bross 22 14,172 Mount Democrat 28 14,148 Humboltd Peak 37 14,064 Mount Sherman 45 14,036 All these trips were eventfull in one way or another, some scary, some silly, some extremely challenging.. Here are a few pics I could dig up on my computer real fast... No. Some of us need to start small though, which is why something like this would be more appealing and practical: http://www.highpointers.org. These individuals set out to conquer the highest points in all 50 states. Someday I hope to start with Florida and work myself up from there. Unfortunately, I haven't even had time to visit the highest point in my own state, which is kinda sad...
You live in Illinois and have never been to the top of the Sears tower? Is this some kind of sick joke?
I think I saw on the Food Network last night a 9 lb cheese burger and 1 lb of fries. You can work up to this after you conquer the 5 pounder.
I walked from the tip of Sanibel Is, Fla...(the lighthouse) to the end of Captiva (15+ miles) in one day...no shoes =) Hardly measures to Mt Everst, etc, but it did me in for the day. In all seriousness, congrats to all those who have climed, scaled, etc....... that which most of us only see on TV!
I did Kili in 2001 5895 meters (6 days) made it. Tried Mt Abbot in the Sierras 4,180 meters in June (2 days) did not make it!
