    Thanks BAM  :)

HAHAHA! No, he certainly doesn't... :D

He would later be convicted of fraud and embezzlement charges in Sept 2000 and was given a 5-year prison sentence. So, as they say, crime truly does not pay - however it sure seems like it was probably fun while it lasted. :D

A friend from Midland, Texas. It was the car featured in Road and Track. He let me have it for three days. If you go to my profile page and go to "threads started by Audiguy" you can find a lot of threads about those three days and some of the experiences I had. I would rather not try to repeat all of them or use the bandwidth now to do it. It was a real blast............

He later had the car repainted red with a tan interior installed to match his Enzo. You may know who he is by that explanation.........

Well I see that the post history only goes back 250 posts so the stories are not there. Perhaps you can check the archives. I believe the posts happened in 2004 and 2005. Many of the F/Cer's including Peloton25 above have read the stories back when they happened. They can probably remember it as well as I do, after as many times as I have repeated them.

Minor detail on the Midland car - he's sold the car after it's makeover. It resides in Northern California now.

I have not spoken to him since the transmission came back from the UK having the mainshaft replaced. I knew he had sold it but did not know where it ended up. I am due to go see him sometime soon. The last time I went out he had gone to his other home in Aspen for a few weeks. I did not call ahead so I missed him. Since we live roughly 280 miles apart now I do not get to see him as often as I did when we lived 30 miles apart. As a matter of fact I have not seen him in about 18 months and only occasionally get him on the phone or by email.............I sure miss being involved with all the supercar and exotics owners like I used to be before I left the car business. Maybe I need to get back in it..........Sure miss FoH and FoD before it became Boardwalk Ferrari.

If you get back in it, save me a seat next to you. ;)

Incidentally, in keeping with everything I have heard about your friend - the current owner of #042 informed me that he was an absolute gentleman to deal with throughout the entire transaction, even when a rather well known dealership (not in Texas) tried to nose their way into the game. :)

He is. He treats everyone with total respect. I remember one time one of his employees, seeing that he had driven the McLaren to work that day, asked if he could go home and get his teenage son and bring him up so he could see the car. Instead of letting him go home and get his son and bring him back up, he was handed the keys and told to take the afternoon off with pay and take his son out in it for a while.

I think you remember the story about his son. He was a ranch management major at Texas Tech and drove a pro street supercharged Chevrolet Beretta to school. He was informed by security that he was disrupting classes when he would drive the car on campus and that he would not be allowed to bring it to class again. His dad sold it and bought him a new Red/Tan Diablo to drive. It was a real gas seeing it parked next to all the crew cab, dualie, diesel pickups parked at the ranch management building. He lived in an apartment about a mile west of the campus on 2nd and Slide Rd and would chain his suspension around a pole at night when he parked it.

When he brought the McLaren up, he stayed the night before at the LaQuinta on Hwy 183 in Hurst and left it parked outside in the open all night. It still makes me quiver to think of leaving that car outside, unattended overnight in the Metroplex......

Pap 348. Click on search above and search for, "Photos of McLaren, Roadster and MX". Be sure to also put in links by Audiguy in the lower right hand portion of the search instructions. It will have what I believe to be a really cool picture of the McLaren from the front with both doors open and up taken around sunset. It should be dated 5-14-2004. There is also a picture of me when I used to race MX professionally and a couple of pictures of my old drag race car.............Boy a lot of water has gone under this bridge in the past 58 years.................

Yeah - it's pretty funny to read that after you're done watching the video. The phrase "No freaking way!!" comes to mind. :D

I'd assume with good behavior that Mr Munroe is no longer jailed. I wonder what he's up to these days?

You'd be surprised which parts bins get raided.
Recognize the mirrors on the Z1? (Not to mention they have "VW" stamped on the bottom.)
