WITH THE EXTREMELY RARE 4-SPEED OPTION!!!

    http://www.modernclassicautosales.com/ferrari/1973_ferrari_246_dino_12532.html

This is what STATE FARM is using to figure out the value of my car!

A little background. Little old lady makes a left in front of me about a month back. Entire nose of my car is flattened. No clips available so new nose will have to be formed from scratch. The estimate is around $80K and about a year to complete. The little old lady's policy maxes out at $25K. The word "totalled" has been uttered. I've gotten my insurance company involved. I've emailed all current listings of Dinos for sale to give them a realistic range as to the value of our little babies. Not sure if I need to get an attorney at this point. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

I just had to share this one with my fellow Dino owners.

This is a SCAM listing. I first found that same car wedged into a MotorSports add. Just for grins I contacted him and made an offer of $7000 which HE ACCEPTED. Was supposedly his uncles car in Indonesia. Shipping to be arranged through Batavia Exporters (or similar name). I proposed alternate escrow accounts and shippers which we ignored of course. Since then he has used similar fake listings including one that made it into Hemmings. One ad was for a beautiful 400i also for a ridiculous price. The pictures of his cars are all staged against the same background which appears to be a US park area just planed with new baby oak trees. Of course when you notify the magazine(s) the ad has mysteriously disappeared.
Beware - he and his organization are good even to the point of setting up bogus pages for the preferred shipping company. ses it two attached pictures look like the car he advertised.

YES!!! YOU NEED TO GET AN ATTORNEY INVOLVED.[/size]

    Been there, done that.

Took me months to get the insurnace company to more or less see it my way, but they did, in no small part to the help from my very able body shop guys at Delphais, and some very solid advice from an attorney.

    Go, call 'em now.

Aloha..to the best of my knowledge if YOU don't have a "stated value" for your car from YOUR insurance company it's up to them to decide the value unless they have a "maximum" that they pay out. My Grundy policy is for $150k so if my car is totalled I get 150K. If her policy maxes out at $25k that's all you'll get from her company.....you coiuld sue HER for the balance........

    Several threads here about it.

Short version, GTS, good = $100K, excellent = $160K, 98pt Concours = MORE, probably lots more.

    GT - Good $80K excellent $125K 98 point concours = $150K up

Actually, most of us should have uninsured/underinsured coverage on our policies, don't wave that option. Then your insurance pays the rest, minus your deductible, and can decide if chasing the offender personally for the balance is worth the trouble.

PAGING FARMER DAVE, WE NEED YOU ON THIS THREAD!!!

I carry that on everything, even my POS Jeep. You never know when it could pay to save your life....cars aren't the only things damaged in collisions.

Thanks, from a fellow Dino owner.
Now, I spotted these on eBay; perhaps you did, too.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-DINO-246-GT-LH-Fender-NOS_W0QQitemZ180064660074QQihZ008QQcategoryZ33644QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
This first listing is for a "Ferrari DINO 246 GT LH Fender (NOS)." Actually, it looks like a nearly complete L/F clip for a Euro car.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FERRARI-246-GT-DINO-Engine-Compartment-Lid_W0QQitemZ140065724184QQihZ004QQcategoryZ140705QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
The seller in this second listing, which is for a "FERRARI 246 GT DINO engine compartment lid," answers a question thusly: "Misc items, new and used koni shocks, springs turnsignals,RF fender, colling fans.trunk liners and new seals, rear spoiler, dash vents, and whatever else I come across going through 2 shipping containers full of Brittish parts." In one of his other Dino listings, he states: "I have a front right fender, 2 used dual exhaust systems, trunk liners, turn signal lenses, new seal for the front and rear engine, might have a set of weber carburetors, new and good used Koni shocks, used are with coil overs, 3 piece spoiler set, mud splash pans, radiator fans, set of air horns and taillights."

Hmmm..., a new L/F clip, a used R/F fender & other useful bits & pieces. 'might be a pretty good start? Good luck & keep us posted!

Makes the GT model look very attractively priced, I wonder if the GT values will climb this spring to rectify the price difference.

Here's a nice GT for sale, let's see where it ends up.

hey everyone. Insurance claims (for CSAA) is what I do for a living, so I think I can comment on the situation.

If the adverse insurance carrier is accepting full liability for the loss and their insured has max property damage of $25k, and the claimant vehicle is worth $150k, they can only pay out what their insured has in coverage, obviously. If the claimant gets his carrier involved, they can only allow coverage for their insd vehicle up to what the underwriter for the policy says is alloted. So if the underwriter for the policy saw that they were writing a full coverage policy for a dino, they are going to look at a book value of the car minus or plus any exceptions that make the car more valuable or less valuable, and offer the amount THEY feel as if the car is worth in a fair market. The department of insurance heavily regulates all proceedings such as this so the insured is treated fairly. If the amount that the claimant carrier who has 0% liabilty offers is still not enought to cover the loss, then you may take the person to small or larger claims court. The adverse party will be represented by their insurance carrier even though that carrier has already paid out the policy limits. From what I have seen, it is not difficult to have a judge place a judgement on the party who is at fault for the loss when their coverage does not exceed the value of the claimant vehicle. This will take time, as when carriers have a limits issue, they are going to take their time to pay out because in most situations, the other party devalues their property to try and get a larger settlement from the other company. hold your ground and stay put for a bit.

The other thing is with uninsured motorists and under insured motorists. These coverages are only valid when someone is injured. As in, if the other party who is at fault only carries $15k in bodily injury coverage and the claimant injuries well exceed the at fault parties coverage. THat is underinsured motorists. Uninsured motorists is a bit of a grey area in many cases, but most of them are when an unknown vehicle makes contact and is at fault for hitting your vehicle. you are hurt, and they flee the scene. THat would be a valid UM claim. Just an FYI to those curious.

If you would like to call me to discuss this further, shoot me a PM and I may be able to assist a bit.

    good luck- john

Thanks for the 411 John. My carrier is involved and they have agreed to repair my vehicle. The only snag now is the estimate from the shop. My carrier has no problem with the dollar amount. Just with how it's arrived at. They're telling me that there's only 5 lines on the estimate with very few wording describing where the money goes. They have asked my shop to give more of a breakdown in the estimate. Anyway, long story short, they will repair my vehicle.

Thanks to others here, I'm going to buy the left front fender off of ebay and see how that looks.

My appraiser has been very reasonable to deal with. Let's see how quickly things move along.

    Thanks everyone and Happy Holidays,

    Manny

I would contact Ferrari Classiche and request a new front clip. I would hope this is the kind of problem that new department is ment to solve.
    Good luck,

There are a number of excellent coach builders in this country that can make a front clip. I don't think the classiche program would be much different than having someone in this country make a clip for you. Might even be better.

    Excellent news!
Glad to see there are a rays of sun shining.

I took my Dino to Scott Bonowski of Hot Rods 'n Hobbies in Torrance as I've seen 4 Dinos he has painted and each has resulted in a win w/platinum at major concours:
    http://www.hotrodsandhobbies.net/Prenovitz/Prenovitz%20pic%20gallery/dppic1.htm

He is located in an automotive "strip mall" of sorts and there are two very qualified metal fabricator shops near him that he uses. My Dino's lower "chin" and "tail" had a bit of the typical road rash from lower aspect ratio tires and their metal fabricator was very convincing to me that he could do the job.

    Hi Scott,

I've already called Scott Bonowski and he's swamped. Maybe by the time my metal work is finished, he'll have an opening as my shop farms out their paint work. Actually, I think my shop called Scott about my car already.

    Racerboy9,

I'll check out that front clip. If my left front fender doesn't measure up and/or I can't locate a right front fender, then this might be my fall back option.

    Stephen,

Thanks for that link. Yet another option.

Thanks everyone. This is a fantastic community. I wish you all a safe and prosperous '07.

    Manny
