Yesterday I happened to check out lambop ower.com and was very impressed with the enhanced graphic design of the site. Not sure when that happened but it's very professionally done. I sure wouldn't want to think that F-chat is resting on its laurels or anything but IMO there's no comparison. This happens to be the only site I(pay to) subscribe to and think it might be time to crank it up a bit. :) :) :) After all it's a new year coming up ;) Anyone else agree?

The old ways, are the best ways.

Them daguerreotypes will steal your soul.

When you get that new-fangled horseless carriage stuck in the mud, what will you do? That's right... you'll need your old trusty steed.

Also.. from my viewpoint, reading LP isn't that easy on the eyes. The graphics look great but the actual forum is a bit rough.

It's not an easy balance, that's for sure. I've been going back and forth for months.

I myself enjoy the simplicity of this site. As much as I enjoy the entertainment value of some of the flash oriented sites that I visit, coming to chat is like visiting an old friend. Look at the most successfull sites out there like ebay, craigslist, and google. They are very simple, similar as to here.

I agree........and now, back to my game of Pacman.
Ok, just looked at that other site. Fchat is much better, and I'm glad Rob doesn't allow all that stupid moving smiley face crap like they have over on
    the Z06 Corvette forum.

Checked it out. Looks different visually because they are using white type
on a dark background. If we reversed ours, they would basically look the
    same.

I see what you're saying but the static look of say, Yahoo's site IMO is why they're getting left in the dust. Craigslist is free, so who's complaining there. And well, Google, they're on track to rule the world.

The best example I can use is virtually any of the graphic materials that Ferrari produces. Almost all their brochures etc. are a work of art. Why can't F-chat be on par with that? It's really not about money but having someone with an eye work on it.(no offense to Rob) We've only got about a zillion people on this board who are capable ;) Who knows, we might even pick up some more subscribers and sponsors in the process. Oh well, I made my point. :)

If all you want is more color, you can change your User Control options to use a different "forum skin". Try the red/yellow one (if you want a headache).

To do this, click on User Controls, Edit Options, go to bottom of options, change Forum Skin to red/yellow choice.

I am a true believer in Google's success because of their model of less is more. When I first started using the internet I hated the added confusion of the other search engines as the internet was foriegn enough already without all the disco. Yahoo is being left in the dust because of thier lack of ever doing anything really well IMO. They have always been just OK.
With that said I think this site is already a success. The amount of participating people here, although not overly huge, is that of a quality that I have not found in any other forum.

Completely disagree with the original post. White text on a black background is a pain to read. The only forum that I think looks better is www.vwvortex.com and they're using a similar light, simple layout. Simplicity in design is the key. And yes, please keep the animated smileys far away...

You guys all need to change your forum display settings from the default to Red/Yellow. That was all I needed to do to make the site visually interesting :)

Readability above all! There's a reason why 99% of printed matter is black on white.

Dont have much to say on the look as I haven't been here long, but I do wonder why we can't use the tags that would save some time and space. Also I think a quick reply button would be nice.

    "Less is more..."

That was Corbusier, or maybe Mies Van de Rohe.

Anyway I agree it's fine, the day we start emulating Ellen Fieldler it's over...of course that Nissan Titan site showed the advantage of animated avatars, they all used bouncing, massaged breasts!
