How about the front indicator light units behind the lenses. I have seen many Countachs with the larger orange part pointing inside, like the silver Lp400 S on the picture that Joe sent. Is this because of the too much Gianti in Bologna, or are there reasons for this? Mostly seen on very early cars I think. Any comments? Ciao! Marcello
Also the tiny 'blind spot' mirrors. I can't tell from the pic, but do you have the raging bull logo on the wheel center caps? This may not be one of them, but the fit and finish of the areas where the bumper/spoiler and wheel arches meet the body is so much cleaner than the factory's.
Boy, you guys just cant leave a man's car alone...LOL. Well, its all true, now youve given Greg things to do at the weekends - as if he doesnt have enough to do (for the wife) already! Joe
But wait there's more.... This is just preference I guess since I have seen it both ways, but I like the CAMPAGNOLO decal opposite the valve stem. It gives a more balanced look to the wheel. Also on Greg's car the black valve stem is wrong. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I thought that too. I think the Corvette guys are the worst. Wrong belts, hose clamps, blah, blah. Takes the fun out of it if it goes that far. I just wonder if anyone will reinstall the ugly US bumpers back on a Countach to have it 100% correct.
1.Valve stems 2. Tires (Wrong make) 3. nobody got. Calipers are not black, they are a gold zink plating. Not the Campagnolo decal, it is correct. Grills are correct, side marker? Grey area, fit and finish, correct. It does have the correct center caps. The bubble mirrors not suppose to be there ,but its staying for now, really comes in handy. The 4th thing, in the picture the lug bolts were painted, I think they are originally silver zink. Anybody confirm this? Now, quit picking on my car. Greg PS this could be a new thread. Post pics of Countachs and point out what is wrong(that should go over well with some owners).
...which the auction house conveniently didnt bother to check out, figuring that Wolf + Countach = more $$$! LOL. Joe
Id hate to have Tony be a judge at a Concours in which my car was featured...oh wait, I retired from meaningless Concours events where the judges know nothing about the Lamborghinis they are judging and award placings to the car's with the glossiest paint jobs! (usually red) LOL. Seriously, Tony knows his stuff.... Joe
The wheel lug nuts should be plated not painted (Gary will tell you if zinc or cad). A thread pointing out what is wrong with other people's Countachs?? Youd be disparaged like a common criminal - even though it would be TRUE.... Joe
Marcel B has a Miura SV 5058....but, this man is Countach CRACKERS! I will leave it for him to come on here and tell us why he has 3 (yes, thats three!) Countachs, all pristine, all perfect and all in one garage. Oh Marcel.... we have to talk. Here is his "Like New" 1986 Countach QV downdraught carburetted car. Wow. Thanks Joe, I retired from Concours myself. I entered and won 4 straight, 3 first place and 1 overall best of show over the past few years. It was great to win but I'm done with that now. I like to have my cars correct if possible but not to the point where I can't enjoy them. I have learned to have an eye for the big things that stand out and that are easy to fix more than every little hose clamp and so on...I still see them but have learned to look over them in the real world. Attached is my Concours DeLorean and my old Silhouette. These were the "before pictures" that I took to find things that needed tending to before I won the national 1st place for the DeLorean and Best of Show at the Celebration Exotic car festival in 2005. The crazy thing is, that show is a big Ferrari show sponsored by Ferrari of central Florida and the best of show went to a Lamborghini! I spent over 100 hours on that car to win that show. I'm on the left receiving the trophy. After that show I figured I would go out on top and start enjoying them. OMG Tony, youre killing us. I better be careful what I offer you...anyway, I say, do it for YOU and your family. Thats what I do it for. Im not too concerned if anyone thinks Im anal. LOL. Good stuff. Joe PS - Do you make visitors take their shoes off before they step in your garage? Wait, let me answer that myself - YES.
Thank you, Yes before pics in high res so I could study them, make notes and a game plan of what needed to be done. labors of love I guess, or some sort of sickness, it depends on who you ask, LOL! Tony
Joe They can leave their shoes on... Just ask Ralph, he and his son were all over it Don't want them to think I'm nuts, I just run arround with this when they leave.. LOL! Tony Image Unavailable, Please Login
My view is if an owner enjoys having a car as perfect as can be, never drives the thing, and trailers it to shows. or uses it for a daily driver, runs the piss out of it and parks it outside, its up to the owner and their take on what brings the most enjoyment to them. I fall somewhere in the middle. I'll be fixing a few things on mine for the reunion, not for best of show reasons, just to make it "show" better. Nice detail work Tony! Greg
Any owner of an older Italian car who is cool enough to keep the original plates and mount them for us to enjoy is a dyed-in-the-wool enthusiast. But just WHO is the lucky owner of this Countach? Anybody know so I may invite him to the 'Countach Caos' next year??? Joe www.lamborghiniregistry.com Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That looks alot like mine! And look at that S........Tony have I made you proud? Thanks for the post Joe! you all are a good group of guys! Greg
A quick story about the trip from Portland to Seattle going to the Italian Concour D'Elegance where those pictures were taken. 5 miles into the trip one of the old rear Pirellis delaminated causing a slow leak, I got it to a local tire dealer where they informed me it could not be repaird. My slightly understanding wife delivered a set of new rears. After the installs we were under way on the trip that takes 3 hours driving the speed limit. Running late from the repair, and stopping here and there for eats and other small things the day started losing light. 25 miles from our goal the very same corner tire that went bad picked up a bake clip laying on the highway cutting a hole releasing air very rapidly. Now I'm on the side of the highway installing the spare. A very nerve racking 25 miles on a 26 year old spare we arrived 12 hour later after starting the trek. The next morning I had a tire dealer in Seattle PU the tire repair it, I mounted it and we made it to the show. We had a great day. and on the return trip home my buddy in his Pantera and I donated to the Washinton state economy in the form of a speeding ticket. Its never dull in a Lamborghini.
