Gerhard Berger announced that following successful tests, Sebastian Bourdais will be "in line" to have a race seat with Toro Rosso in 2008. At these tests, he was fractionally slower than Liuzzi, but faster than Scott Speed. Berger wants Bourdais to honor his contract for 2007 with Newman Haas.

That means he better kick ass this season in Champ. Awesome for him though!

Oh, Scott, step up your game buddy.

I'm glad he finally got a chance in F1. He deserved it. I wonder who he will be racing with. I don't think Scott Speed will still be at Toro Rosso, but do you think Liuzzi will still be there in 2008?

Good for Bourdais. I am delighted he will finally get his shot in F1, he is long overdue.

Now we need to get the other Seb (Loeb) to join the party too - that guy should do well too!

I find this statement baffling. This means nothing. Either they give him a contract or they don't. All Berger is saying is that he will be re-considered in a year's time. What does Berger expect another year to bring?

What more can he do in Champ cars? He has nowhere to go but down. If he wins again in 2007, what has he proved? Either he is good enough to step into a seat right now or he isn't. I don't buy this crap about Bourdais seeing out his Newman/Haas contract. If STR wanted him, they would buy out his deal.

My feeling is that this comment is intended to allow Bourdais to save face.

I don't see SeaBass signing to drive for a back marker team. He'd rather dominate ChampCars.

I wouldn't be so fast to say they are going to be a back marker. For a new team they did pretty well last year. I think they'll be more around the mid pack unless some of other teams find some more money.

Bourdais wanted to do one more year in Champ Car, thats why they are using this kind of language. It means that if Bourdais still wants to join Torro Rosso in 2008 he'll have a seat.

Personally I think this is great news, Bourdais diserves a seat in the big show.

Actually, Seabass set the quickest time out of all the STR drivers on the final day, in the actual STR car. Luizzi was in the Redbull car on the finla day, so he was in a faster car. The team trusted Sebastien with carrying out the testing duties for the team.

It would be a good turn for what has been a good career so far for him. I'd like to see him there....but I don't see a WDC in it for him.

He'll be teammates with Graham Rahal at Neuman Hass in 2007. I'd like to see SB in F1. This is sticky. If Rahal out preforms him, he's out in 2008.

The guy deserves it and its great for it to happen for him. He's always been gracious to the fans in the Champ Car series, at least the times I've seen him in the pits.

Agree with the earlier post above, time for Scott to put up or shut up.

I believe it was at LeMans recently that SeaBass deliberatly punted off a competitor.

I'm thinking of all the great drivers in racing that have never won a championship, let alone 2 or 3 in a row.
Say what you want about the guy, but nobody HANDED him 3 championships, it comes with hard work, and a great team effort.

RB has invested a lot into scott speed through the american program. I don't think they are just going to toss him aside, especially after 4 or 5 years of trying to develope him in GP2.

They'll probably ask him to go to Champ car and return as a test driver the following year.

and in this case, it also comes from mediocre competition.

I will put Mears' or Rahal's 3 championships up against Bourdais and say there is no comparison. Champ Car today is a pale comparison to the heydays of the CART series. Winning one highly competitive British F3 championship is a far more impressive feat than winning 3 anemic Champ Car series.

Thus far F1 has responded to Bourdais' achievements with a yawn. That says it all.

So, that means that Bourdais 'could' drive a Ferrari engine in 2008, no?

Surely, he should do a better job than Luizi and Scott Speed.

I know that some of you don't think much about a Champcar championship, but what these 2 other guys have ever won to be in F1?
