Does anybody know what the functional difference is between the red wireless master and the two black slaves for a 456. All my garage could tell me is that the red is "quite special" and that I should keep it apart for the garage and never use it myself ???? I did a search on this forum but didn´t find an answer, neither did the user manual.
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to advise you the right answer, but all I can say is DON'T LOSE IT!!! I bought a 550 about 3 months ago with only one (black) remote control fob and key, thinking it would be reasonably straightforward to get duplicate sets. Answer from Ferrari? AED 10,000 for a replacement set (about US$2,700). Quite why they can't remove the factory alarm system, replace with an aftermarket unit, (complete with new remotes), and cut a duplicate key against the existing one, I have no idea. They mumbled something about messing up the ECU blah blah blah. Amazing what Ferrari are able to get away with. Anyway, my amateur solution is to attach a mobile phone to the keys with a message saying reward if found. The UAE is generally quite an honest place to live, so I am banking on the milk of human kindness should I ever lose them. Yeah yeah, I know, someone will tell me if you can't afford to maintain a Ferrari, don't buy one, but really this is taking the p***. Sorry for the rant. (Oh, and I think the red one has the master code programmed into it, so it may be a lot cheaper to get a duplicate black one.) Good luck! Harris
There is considerable discussion on this subject. The red one is the master from which the blacks are programmable as per the Ferrari method. However, we may now have another way to program the black fobs. See: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=132424
I have read the thread that you refer to, this tells me how to make my own black slaves, but I still have no clue what the red one is doing. For sure you do not need a red one to programm the slave as you suggest. What can possibly be the reason to exist for this red monster ??
It holds the master codes for your alarm combination which is used to program other remotes by way of the Ferrari programming method. If you have the red one, that is valuable. However, we may now be able to provide more remotes in a simplier programming manner.
