    Hi, has anyone tried installing the HKS mega flow air filter in the 348. I have a Nissan 300z xTT and the difference after installation is astounding-- completely tranforms the performance. By looking at the air flow meter-- it seems to be the same size as the Z. How big is the inlet size. Any views

    Haha wow, didn't think I'd ever see the word HKS on f-chat. We're an authorized HKS dealer (well our sister company http://www.mvpmotorsports.com), if any 348 owners want to try it out I'll send them a filter for cheap as long as they report back with results.

    These things work about as good as the Electric superchargers for sale on ebay. IMO a complete waste of time and money. 348's have side air rams and a wopping 205 cubic inch motor, the stock air filter is more then enough, and the design of the stock intake manifold has long enough runners to settle out any air flow problems that those products claim to cure.

    I would imagine taking hot air from inside the engine bay can't add any power either.

    Well I was looking to make my own "insulated" air-box, using the existing duct inlets. Has anyone ever felt how hot the factory aluminum air boxes get??? That cannot be good for horsepower..... I mean one cannot even touch them at all after driving. On my p-car the intake tract was completely cool to the touch after very agressive driving.

    I think that is one reason that gruppe-m box adds power... It is made from Carbon and does not conduct heat like the factory aluminum boxes.

    There is a thread in the "Technical" section discussing ceramic coating for headers. Being that the airbox on a 348 is aluminum, it could also be ceramic coated inside and out, in several different colors including black. This would prevent heat from entering the intake tract as well as preventing the box itself from heating up. You might discuss it with a coater such as Jet-Hot.

    My bad, OZ, I was assuming 348, not 355. Is the 348 box metal? Anyone want to pipe in here?

    Yes I think the 348 box is aluminum too. Though it is just "one" box. I think they can benefit from a coated airbox too. :eek:

    Anyone wanting to do it should probably contact a coater beforehand, though. Ceramic coating creates a good amount of heat I'm sure, and aluminum has a lower melting point than steel. Wouldn't want to ruin anything! :)

    Well, I talked to Jet Hot today about coating the airbox, and unfortunately the coating process heats the part to 650 degrees, which they don't recommend for aluminum. Oh well. :(

    The air box on my 1990 is steel not alloy, I know this as i have shot blasted it ready to repaint.

    The "steel" air box will work great for ceramic then!! :)
