The commercial side of it does. As I grow older, I really appreciate being with loved ones on the holiday. That's the best part, the only part and that's what it should be about.

That being said, I hate the "other side" of this holiday. It's a bunch of marketing crap and rude people who deserve to be run over with my car. Thump! Thump!

I watched two women get into an argument at a department store tonight. I don't know what it was about, but peoples' stress levels are definitely high. And for what? Stupid gifts? Impressing everyone? I go to Staples to buy plastic protector sheets for work and I'm literally stepped on and in a stupid line for fifteen minutes. Yeah, merry Christmas to you too, jerkoff.

This holiday has really gone in the ****!er since I was a kid. Anyone else feeling like this?

i empathise, while i'm young and don't really get involved in christmas on any level, working in the city has been different in the last week. a lot more horns are honking, more people being irrational, just a generally agitated population that need to snort a line and relax for a damn minute

Little off topic, but that reminded me of a part of George Carlin's act where he says, "and here's another group of people who deserve to strapped to a gourney and castrated with fishing knives."
I guess this might not be so off the topic as I'm sure George would agree with these comments!

Don't let other people ruin your Christmas spirit - turn them around with your Christmas spirit...!

I start preparing for the holiday season around Halloween. I get really patient and make sure that I leave ample time to get to any given destination at any time. I take it slow, enjoy every little thing and smile as often as possible. Though I haven't worn it this week, I have a Santa hat (I actually have two!) that I wear and have been wearing since the beginning of December... It makes people smile; kids love it. And if you smile and people see you smile, they just may get a smile of their own going.

I was at Starbucks a couple of weeks ago and some woman commented on my Santa hat, saying it was nice to see someone in the Christmas spirit. I said thank you and that I wished more people were in it already. She lamented she had not yet put up her Christmas decorations at her house. I told her the spirit of Christmas is not in the decorations, but in the people who put them up. A light came on in her head, her eyes widened and she shook my hand and said thank you.

Don't let other peoples' attitudes or traffic or long lines or other peoples' impatience take away your Christmas spirit. Yes, the commercial aspect of the holiday has gotten out of hand, but if more people maintained a holiday spirit despite all the garbage, then maybe more people would be drawn back to the true meaning and spirit of the holiday season.

    Merry Christmas, REMIX.

I used to enjoy that, but nothing left in it for me anymore...parents and their generation all passed on, family scattered to the four winds. I quit the booze nearly 8 yrs ago, most people I know in late 40's-early 60's have quit as well. Never was a weed smoker, so I guess I'll just settle for coffee.

    THe Bah Humbug thread! LOL!

Merry Christmas to Scott and ReMIX and NNO as well!

You've got it Carby......I've done several things.

First small rememberances in lieu of big gifts..
Second NO CREDIT CARDS....buy early and a little along and keep eye out for fun things that really mean something....

Then, don't forget to give lingerie!! ;)
along with those cute metal tokens that say "good for one hug/kiss/massage.

But obviously they have to open that on Christmas eve, after all the lil' ones are 'night night'......

I'll check back on ya'll as the weekend unfolds....it's a lot of travel, interface with the ex over kids, former in-laws, etc...for me...

    Some Booker's may be required......

Bah Humbug for timing. Bad timing for everything. Christmas, and holidays do suck. The only thing that has given me a smile is the secret santa thread.

This week has been **** and it will get worse.

Spend time with your families. Forgive, forget, and move on with life if you must. Cherish the people around you... while they are there. They might not be there next year for reasons beyond your control, or the medical world's control. Life is difficult, make the best of it every chance you get and if you cannot smile yourself do me a favor and try to make someone else smile.

"DEAR EDITOR: I am 8 years old.
Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus.
Papa says, 'If you see it in THE SUN it's so.'
Please tell me the truth; is there a Santa Claus?
    -Virginia O'Hanlon."

Virginia, your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. He exists certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! How dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus! It would be as dreary as if there were no Virginias. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest man that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! He lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

Congratulations - even without the cruise, you'll find it to be one of many of the best thing(s) that ever happened to you.

It's like a friend of mine said when I repeated the timeworn: "Years from now, we'll laugh about this."

    He said: "Laugh now."

He was right, ya know. Trust me, it works.
