now i believe that engine was designed by ferrari. with resonators it just sounds like a v8 lincoln. taking them out really opened the door to give it the sound it deserves

You believe correct. That is a 430 engine under the hood. In person, it sounds like a 430 challenge car.

Not so much, they only share a block and the difference in their cranks results in very different sounds.

Well Mark, I was not aware of the different crank, and that would make sense that it would change the sound. I still think it sounds similar to a Challenge though.

Been a while since I've heard either in anger but, to my ears, the Maserati has a much mellower rumblier "American" v-8 sound, albeit one that was born and raised in Italy, whereas the the 430 sounds like a fast motorcycle on steroids.

Doesn't the Maserati have a standard crank whereas the Ferrari has a 180-degree crank? They are completely different principles which account for the difference between the sound and feel of an American or German V8 and a Ferrari's.

That sounds VERY nice...fits the cars personality too. It doesn't scream or wail, but a car that looks like that shouldn't. The sound reminds you it's still an Italian exotic under the skin. :)

But then again, what else can we expect from The Muffler Man :)

hey, we should do an exhuast sound shoot out. It would make for a good F-Chat podcast...

now if only I knew someone with a muffler shop, someone with a way to record good quality audio, and some people with ferrari's that have different exhaust systems on them, perhaps a lift to see the systems installed.... hmmmmm... :D
