I was going to pick up a 330ci earlier this summer, but things fell through. I was thinking about picking up an old SL after that, but decided against.

Today I started thinking about a pre-owned Acura TSX. I like the way it looks, and the prices are very attractive. The only thing thats a turn off is the fact that it's only a 4-cylindar. I'm not looking for a race car here, and anything will be better than my current Isuzu, but i'd like a little comfort knowing I could step on it and the car would move.

Does anyone have any experience? I'm thinking it should be fairly reliable (Honda) and maintenance will be much less than the Germans.

I'm not in a huge rush. I'm working on a student budget, so low 20s is where i'd like to keep the price. I'm also flexible. Anyone have any other suggestions??

Sorry for the rant and 20 questions. I'll let you guys take it from here......

I bought one brand new. Sold it 4 months later.

    But I really liked it!

    Crazy huh?

There were several things that were just deal breakers for me.

    1. The shifter was a little rubbery.

    2. You will be aware of the FWD on hard acceleration.

    3. The xenon head lights have such a sharp cut off that a dog standing in the road 100 yards in front of you is not visable. No, its not the adjustment, its just that they scatter NO light.

    4. This 100% Japanese made car had a terrible squeek in the right side of the windshield, common the ~50% of them according to the poll on a forum.

Having said that, it was beautiful inside, very, very well made, the Nav was super intuitive and easy. A lovely car that holds its value.

GF bought one 2 months ago and really likes it. She has the auto which actually gets better gas mileage on the highway than the manual which I thought was interesting when looking at the stickers.

Very nice ride and interior, I thought it drove quite nicely but yes a bit of torque steer - but I ALWAYS notice that on FWD cars.

I think it would be a great choice for your situation, good value and style and cheap to run. I really like them in black.

Forget the old SL. I have a 94 and although it's been reliable it is expensive to insure and have serviced (I overmaintain it) and gas mileage is a third of the TSX.

Great guys thanks for the responses!

As for the G35 coupe, it's one of my favorite cars, I just don't know if i can swing a low-milage one at this time. We'll see though, I probably won't buy until spring.

As for what's been said so far, great info. As of now I think i'm definately leaning towards the TSX (in Black of course).

Thanks again for the info guys.

If you can, get a TL. It is just "better," this based on direct experiance with both.

TSX leaves a lot to be desired in the power range - only 200 horses means sixty comes in around 8 seconds. What's your budget? I'm sure we could help you get into something a bit better all-round.

Go for a Subaru Legacy GT instead. Get awd, 2.5L turbo flat four and manual. Wander over to Cobb and get almost 300 hp with a $700 accessport or less if you buy a used one.

Budget is 25k at most. I'm a huge BMW fan, and we've had plenty in the past, but I don't know if I want to have the thought of high maintenence bills in the back of my mind all the time. I'm a college student, so the closer I can stay to my monthly + insurance, the better (Insurance btw is going to be higher b/c of my age, so a 4 cyl car [TSX] is a huge plus).

As much as it pains me to say, i'll probably have to stay Japanese until after college (they're great cars, but germans are really my thing). The G35 sedan does nothing for me, though I do love the coupe.

We'll see though. Like I said, i'm not buying until spring. I guess I will consider a 3 or A4, and i'm pretty open to suggestions....

So, $25k, reliable, somewhat powerful, a little bit of luxury.....sway me from a TSX.....

My buddy just picked one of those up. I actually really like the car, but haven't driven it yet. I never really considered it for myself, but maybe ill ask to take a drive and see if it does it for me.

    MINI Cooper S, used.

    Unless you need four doors.

I wouldn't be caught dead driving a four-door sedan in college. Or 20 years after, come to think of it... ;)

I do travel a lot locally (NYC, DC, Philly), so 4 doors is nice, but not a necessity.

I think ill take the Cooper S into serious consideration.

My problem with the '02 MCS I had was that it just didn't have enough power on the freeways. Maybe I was just usually at the wrong speed (mid 70s) for 6th but I don't think it is well suited for highway duty. I had gotten out of a stock '02 Subaru WRX - with just the 2.0L turbo and a 5spd - and that worked much better on long trips because it was usually just beginning to spool up the turbo.

Haha I remember a few years back when we picked up a 5-series because my mom thought the 7 was too much of an "old person's car".

I personally love the car, I just don't know if it's the right car for me at this point in my life. I think a smaller, more agile sports sedan will do.

My indecisiveness is really starting to show. I think i'm going to go after an '02-'04 325i. I've wanted one for god knows how long, and I think if i'm going to go through the effort of buying a car, it might as well be the one I really want, and not just something i'll have to settle on until I can get what I want.
