You have a really good point. I never thought about this car's possibility to be badged as a Maybach if it does hit production.

But I think, for it to wear a Maybach badge, it needs "something" else. I can't really explain what is exactly missing, but it just doesn't have "it".

I like it. I'm not sure as badging it as a Maybach. I think the problem with the current Maybach is that it looks too much like a Mercedes. And now this one will share the platform with the S600. Not a good idea. Sure a lot of cars share platforms(VW. Audi Bently) But a Bently is only 60k more than a Audi. It isn't a 150K more. Thats a huge leap in price ,and with that leap, technology and exclusivity needs to go with it (not platform sharing). Until then Maybach is going to have a rough going.
As for the concept car, very cool. A bit of 62 Lincoln coolness with the 4 door convertable.

If MB produces this car, its days are numbered.

Maybach really needs to come out with a production version of the Exelero. Everyone LOVES the car, why WOULDN'T they?! I think it would bring the Maybach name up a bit.

Mercedes of today isn't the Mercedes that they want us to believe...

After seeing it at Pebble, it looks like a grotesque batmobile. If they build it, the brand will die...

It's about style. Having a folding metal roof THAT LONG would look rediculous on the car and be almost impossible to engineer folding away neatly under the trunk.

Why are MB's "new" concepts looking like Cadillac concepts from 5 years ago??

Why does the new MB CL look like an Acura?

I agree, it looks OK to me. But I don't see the relevance of Maybach either with M-B reaching so far upmarket. It's kind of a "non-brand" now. Rolls and Bentley have the distinctive big luxe saloons for the Grey Poupon set.

I must say, I work for a lady that owns a Maybach 62, and I would take it over any RR or Bently there is. The Price is a little steep, but its an amazing car. The outside may not be that increbile looking, but its nice, and the interior is a dream.

The Phantom is at a different level than the Maybach. BMW managed to get that product right.

But I'd still rather have something with the flying B on the bonnet...

Now, you're talking. I've been watching these cars lately on Ebay. The best ones are pricey, but they are probably worth it.

As opposed to the beautiful 57 and 62 they currently have...?

Perhaps you don't like the Exelero, but at least its a step in a better direction. Pushes the styling.

I have a client that owns a limo service. In January I got him a 2004 Maybach 57 with 13k miles on it for $160k. He says that car works almost every day at $1500 for 9 hours, then does plenty of dinners and weddings at night.. This time of year he does airport runs at $300 per , so far over 20 this week alone. The car now has 29k miles and we think it can be sold easily for $125k He is going to sell the car after the superbowl and replace it with another.
