IMO the Exoto version looks much better.

Talked to Exoto today after recieving an e-newsletter wiith ferrari 500 pics -- it does look a little bit better than the CMC and they said it would be in stock next week (I will only order from them with a definite delivery date). I have an Exoto 312T and a CMC 250 -- both which seem excellent.

I am really planning to get either a CMC or Exoto. Any other opinions or experience?

The CMC has better wheels, but I'd say the edge goes to Exoto

 

I'd say the Exoto wheels are better. I've seen the Exoto model and they are painted a flat colour which is how it should be, not chromed like the CMC. The CMC wheels are also the reason why I haven't bought the SWB.
Also the nose of the CMC 500 F2 seems to be too much up in the air. The engine does look very nice though.

Te reason I say the CMC wheels are better is because they appear closer to the 1:1 car, as seen at http://www.***************.com/frame.php?file=car.php&carnum=724 and http://www.f1-legend.com/images/histoire/voitures/52voi-ferrari500f2.jpg. The Exoto rims seems to have to much ri showing before the spokes start.

I see what you mean. I've taken a closer look at some period pictures and the Exoto spokes are correct for the rear wheels and the CMC ones for the front wheels. So in a way both are incorrect. But my beef is predominantly with the chrome. I just like the look of the flat paint.

It is not the same model, the model of Exoto is the model of 1952 with 4 short exhausts, the model of CMC is the model of 1953 with 1 long exhaust and lower nose.

 

My trigger finger is getting itchy. Anybody got either one of these yet?

 

Hi, Just to address some of the comments about the wheels being "chrome" on the CMC cars(s), that is not correct. The wheels on the CMC car(s) are naked machined aluminum wheel and center hub, laced with stainless steel spokes. No chrome or finish is applied to the wheels.

 

I should be getting my Exoto 500 F2 this week!! I'll post pics once i get it.

 

Ordered the Exoto 500 F2 on the 27/1, but got no order confirmation from Exoto. I wonder if this is normal for them, or if i have to get in contact with them ?

Here is mine which I got like a week ago.I love it but I somehow have the feeling that CMC will outdo Exoto and their model will be better-painted wheels or not.

 

CMC issue was announced in this week's Autoweek..........

Has anyone done an in person comparison of the Exoto vs CMC yet?

 

I will get you one as soon as I get my CMC model.As far as know nobody has one yet to do the comparo.

 

The pre-ordered Exoto 500 F2 came today - very cool. I really like the working universal joints in the steering column, and the deep richer red than most other models. While the wheels are accurately dull aluminum wires, the definition is lost against the background although the detail is there. The suspension pieces are terrific. A beautiful and wonderful little car.
All of the Exoto, BBR and CMC Ferraris are just must haves they are so good; especially the BBR 375 -- it gets more dynamite the more you look at it.

To give an idea of relative sizes, here is the Trifecta pride of my little collection:the Exoto 500 F2, BBR 375 and CMC 250 GT SWB.

LOL, before the dealer shipped it out i received the newsletter for the yellow Jacques Swaters 500 F2 of 1953 and decided to hold off on the Alberto Ascari version and get the yellow 1953 version. So, i guess ill have to wait a little bit until this one is delivered. The reason i opted for the yellow is because i already have a 375 indy (1/43) of Alberto Ascari. I figured i would give my collection a little variety with the yellow version... So, I gotta wait a little longer..
But i think it will be worth the wait..

 

Does anyone know if the 500 F2 was considered a street car - eg. was it driven to the races? I don't want to start with the race cars - did that with my primary collection and it gets out of hand (http://hondamobilia.vtec.net)

 

I was told by a CMC rep the main difference between their ars is the rear is removable to see the more than 500 rivets in the fuel tank.

I also don't see a number on car and in pictures the red is brighter(?).
Exoto's red seem darker. CMC tells me they are Ferrari approved while
Exoto is not.
