  1. Are you talking about the black on black carbed with rocker panels added? Rear seal leaking?

Thanks and good job hooking Tim Mathile up with us. I have now given him Bobby Wallace's direct phone number and Im sure if he is persistent, he will learn more about the car's ID.
I will hopefully be out there and see Bobby soon so I can always try and jog his memory as to what car this was: he is not a chassis numbers man, BUT he is quite good (if you get him sufficiently warmed up in conversation - which is like pulling teeth!) at recalling some basic details such as "it was the second one built" (1120004) or "it was the 5th one built" (1120010) etc. Then too he can shed light on the reason the ID numbers were ground off (the "S" conversion maybe?).

My white 86 QV has the same thing... perhaps this is SWISS style.. I found them both in Swiss, must be original like this with these cars because there is never been any paintjob on these cars, anyone has any idea how this is possible???? both cars are produced on a mondaymorning?? :)

Okay Joe, three is a little crazy but I just can't get enough of them! the countach is just SOOOOOOOOOO SEXY!!

What will be the exact date from the reunion?

  11. Pm me your email address, or Joe. I would be happy to share any info on these cars. They drive me nuts. I will send you a pile of pictures. I would post them right now, but I have not figured out how to create a file out of an email. It might not still be available, but was just a short time ago. It was out west. Nice car, the rear main seal was leaking, 30 k + miles, and it had the rocker panels modified. Priced low 70's. Black on black. Off the top of my head it was an 82 or 83 year model.

    Marcel,

The placement of the turn-signal lenses depended on the country that the car was destined to be delivered to.

I assure you there is not a naughty mechanic running around and switching the turn-signal lenses of Countachs the wrong way just for fun (now that WOULD be an interesting idea...)!

For example, I have personally noted that all Countach LP400 that were delivered to Italy have an all-white turnsignal lense (my car was delivered to Achilli Motors in Milan and thus has these). It seems to me that the all-white lenses are exclusive to those early 4-liter cars only, and they are slimmer than those of later cars.....
To unravel what was specified to which country would be an impossible task without knowing what was mandated by each countries' transportation department at the point of manufacture.
Of course, having a picture of your car coming off the 'line at Sant Agata erases all doubts!
I tell you who might remember: Try Orazio Salvioli at Top Motors in Nonantolla (youll have to look it up, his contact info escapes me for now). He is the ex-factory foreman who was responsible for the delivery of all Countach from 1974 to 1990 and I bet he will shed definitive light on this topic. Make sure your Italian is good....
So too Valentino MIGHT remember, but his focus was in testing the cars so Im not sure he can be defiitive but he is worth a contact at [email protected]
He loves hearing from any Countach owner, so dear to his heart that those cars are.

    August 2007.

I was only pulling your leg Marcel. My LP400 came from a man who had FIVE (yes, thats 5!) all side-by-side in his garage, including no fewer than three (3) LP400 Periscopa. You dont need to explain or justify. Good for you for having them and caring for them.

Dont know about this VIN tag. It does not look like a factory item to me, but I could be wrong. Where did it come off?
