My love affair with Dino's, started back in 1991. This is when i saw my first Dino.

Keep in mind, I am from Texas and grew up with trucks and surburban's (before they were popular) - which just perpetuates a stupid Texan stereotype. When i bought my first Ferrari, I was the first person in my family to own a foreign car (of any make/country of origin). When I first saw the Dino, I had no idea it was a Ferrari. I knew one day, I must have one of these cars, preferrabley in blue, the same color i saw so many years ago.

When I finally bought one, it was red and was/is still a great car (s/n 07714). I still longed for that blue Dino, and figured it had long since left the Houston area. After 13 years, I finally tracked it down, almost by accident. The owner's son had taken it out for a drive after a long period in storage and had a problem. A fellow Ferrari club member saw him on the side of the road, and finally, I had found THE car. The blue Dino was a 1973 GTS (07010). After several years of asking, which turned to begging, which became acceptance that the car wasn't for sale, I gave up after Thanksgiving of this year. The car has so many needs, it is ridiculuos. However, as absurd as it sounds, sentimental value is something much harder to measure. After realising it wasn't meant to be, I figured, I have enough to be thankful for and have enough Dino's that I can make "right".

Low and behold, tonight, my wife surprised me with the best X-mas gift I have ever received, the blue Dino (07010). I look forward to having a chance to bring this car back to the glory I remember it being - THE car I lusted after for so many years. The car that started an obsession that has yet to be quenched.

In all of the Cristmas wishes that we have wished each other, I wish that everyone could have a wife as thoughtful (although crazy) as mine. God knows, with all my Ferrari obsession's, a wife that understands is a very rare blessing.

What a great story. Congratulations!!! You definitely have a great wife. The first Ferrari I ever saw up close was a Ferrari BB512i. I was only 7 or 8 years old. Hopefully one day my wife will buy me one too :)

Congratulations (you deserve some credit too, for picking such an excellent mate ;) ) And Merry Christmas!

I consider us both to be very fortunate, as my wife bought me the black & the gray car in the following photograph, and also contributed a healthy sum on getting the burgundy car's body & paintwork done.

    Here's to GOOD WOMEN :)

Fantastic! cant wait for you to start the restoration.

Meanwhile i'm off to try on my new socks. I last saw them over 10 years ago and whilst they were an old favourite pair which i wore regularly with pride, there came a day when they were sadly beyond repair and therefore met with the bin.
Or so i thought until this morning when opening what i thought was going to be a mere Cartier watch i was overwhelmed to find my old favourite long lost pair of socks! and guess what, my loving wife had restored them with some matching darn.

WSpeer, yours and my wifes have much in common, Merry Christmas.

Congratulations for such love and happiness!

We'll look forward to more photos of the beautiful blue, perhaps it is close to the medium blue metallic < numerous names > color on cars such as Corbani's, OMGjon's , and my Bora. It makes many others smile.

    Merry Christmas

PS - that would be a BIG present to hide under the tree, any hints on how she presented it to you?

I also think my wife is the best wife in the world- not because she can surprise me with a Dino - she will never have the money for that-- but because of what she sacrifices to allow me to spend money on my gearhead hobbies. She never got the house she wanted, we can only afford a 3 bedroom 1 bath in an old neighberhood, she does not get a new car whenever she wants, and she puts up with things very few wife's will ever put up with like have three of my Racing Ducati's in our small house in place of the furniture she may prefer.

She knew I was crazy about anything motor driven when she met me-but she did not anticipate how bad it could get. I bought my Dino when I was 24 and making $6K a year. I still have that Dino and I am restoring it- never thought I would own a car that long and drive it so hard it would need restoration. With the amazing escalation of prices due to the internet and auctions (all of my hobbies reflect this escalation) she watches while I spend big money trying to find the correct mouse hair for the dash and other items I wore out but need in order to bring it back to the "feel" it had when I first bought it.

From the begining of our marriage I went on to restore 15 356 Porsches as well as restore and race early 4V Ducati WSB. She would come with me to the track and volunter for all of the scut jobs around the track-- just because she loved me. All took away money from things I am sure she would prefer our family have.

Ok- I know I have run the string out on this (and painting a pretty selfish picture of myself) but my point is I feel my wife is the best because of what she has given up as well as the love and support she has given me through these many yearrs.

Lol. Me too. My car could have a new timing belt and head gaskets for what I've spent on dinners/wine this year.
