Can you write a check for ~$14k? http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=135053549&postcount=2
.. You are right now might be the time to scramble for the alcohol! Well. on the upside I didn't pay too much for the car. So I'll still be in it less then or around the same that I would be if I bought one off ebay. How much of that cost do you think is parts?
ah, well.... The 30,000 mile service kit off a website i found on here is 1,200. I know i need new plug wires thats another 500. so the valve guides and labor. How much is a common ferrari shop per hour, do you know?
Have to figure out what is wrong first. The 355 30k mile service kit parts alone will run you about $1500.
Half way down http://emelbon.tripod.com/eugeniosferrariservice.html $5575.00 for the major alone. This particular type of Major Service with Head Rebuild is approximately $11995.
Well, at least I have a good idea of the costs if done at a ferrari shop. My usual machanic that works on all my other stuff whom isn't a ferrari machanc seemed to think he could do the 30K service a lot cheaper. As well as doing the heads if needed. But well see. Worst case I have to either buy a lift and learn how to do it my self or. Sell my other car to pay for part of the repairs haha. Thanks very much, you have been very helpful
The head should only be attempted by someone that knows what they are doing. These are not cars to "learn on". Take it to someone who knows what they are doing. It's going to cost money, but make sure it is done right.
nice collection by the way. How do you like the 308? I've always liked those but enver had the chance to drive one. I would like to get one as a project someday.
Pretty simple car to work on (the Mondial has better access), fun to drive, one of the best steering feedback setups out there.
Here's an itemized expense breakdown (pun intended) for a newer model Ferrari that *didn't* have major engine problems (e.g. cracked head, cracked block) $2.90 a mile: http://www.sportscarmarket.com/articles/archives/939 Frankly, I don't think that it does *anyone* any good to have people buying Ferraris who won't or can't keep them properly on the road, so these sorts of expenses need to get wider exposure.
When I bought the car I was completely aware that it would cost me a hell of a lot of money, probably more then I could afford to keep it on the road. And I spent just about every cent I could scrape up to buy the car. At least I don't owe anything money on it. So my only costs from this point, is mantaining it. I am 18 years old, So I wanted the car to drive. Not to leave in my garage and look at all its life. Even if the guy I bought it from told me it would cost 2.90 a mile to run it. it wouldn't have made a differnce to me. And I also don't need it to be in perfect condition, being my everyday car. I didn't and don't want a show car. The car also has a salvage title, So I'm not all that worried about keeping the value up. Thats why I got the car cheap. So I'm still not unhappy even hearing about all the money I'm going to have to spend on it, its worth it to me, haha.
It's amazing that crap like this gets 3 pages full when it's obvious from the get-go that it's bull...... Lets move on
What's bull? The posts here have been very helpful in addressing my 355's problem. I can't thank the people that assisted enough. Thanks for everyones help.
Page 1, post 19. This is a joke, right? Just so we can help... why not provide the Assembly Number from your car?
The bank cutting in and out sounds electrical, but I have a hunch your car has more than that one issue. A mechanic should start with the electrical so both banks run, then see what's up with everything else. This is not a DIY job for you my friend; you need someone who knows his way around a 355. As has been mentioned, your symptoms are severe enough that it's going to get worse, not better if you keep driving. Ken
