glad to see you made it out okay. good luck in california. i think that its pretty safe to say that everyone has f-d up at some point in their lives. harping on it isn't gonna solve anything. btw, you might wanna check out the 1199 Foundation. it's a good cause that supports the California Highway Patrol Officers and their families.
Thank you but I m French and I did nothing to you... if you don t like European poeple don t come here, that s about ferrari and one of the ferrari boss is French =)
I envy you americans. It is way more strict here in Norway. I got caught with an average speed of 179,73 km/h, in a 100 km/h zone. Lost my licence for 21 months in addition to 26 days of jail. I also got a huge article in one of the biggest newspapers here, second page: "Porsche driver drove straight to jail" However, I dont think I was under 200 km/h. It costs at least 2000 euros to get the licence her in Norway. Cars also cost about twice of what you pay in the US.
yes that's crazy in norway... but you know in USA that's similar too, it depend where you live in the US...
Where is Fairfax? I had a temporary job in Maryland, but I was living by Tysons Corner Virginia. I drove over 85 on that highway every day for about 2 months and was never stopped. I don't even remember seeing one police car. I remember big signs when I entered Virginia saying that radar detectors are illegal. Anyways, I think it is rediculous to put someone in jail for 6 months for speeding. Jail should be reserved for crimes where there is a victim, not an imaginary victim.
I agree, going to jail for simple speeding is ridiculous, however: Imaginary victims ? According to www.nhsta.gov: 43,200 people died in traffic collisions in the USA in 2005. That is 43 thousand families standing over a grave. Moms, dads, brothers and sisters etc grieving for a loved one. IMHO, I've been there and believe me there are more victims of a fatal traffic collision than the people killed. Secondly 2.68 million people were injured seriously enough to have it reported to the police, insurance or a medical facility in traffic collisions in 2005. We all may push the envelope at times but when you race on the street or drive dui or drive recklessly, you have to take responsibility when things go wrong. Race on the track, drive on the street.
Driving is a skill. 1 person with low skills makes a dumb mistake, and then laws are passed which restrict the 100's of other people. I'll give a quick example. There is a 40+ foot deep quarry near where I live. For as long back as I can remember kids would go there to swim. There are trees they would climb, and then jump in the water. One year some dumb kid who did not know how to swim followed his friends up the tree, jumped in, and drowned. It sucks to be him. What did the city do? They passed a law restricting swimming in the quarries. Anyone who swims now gets a fine. Nobody can swim because one person messed it up for everyone else. You can not legislate against stupidity. All you end up doing is restricting the freedom and enjoyment of the majority which is smart and able to enjoy without causing harm. I think we all know people who should be kept off the road, no matter what speed they drive. And we know people who are excellent drivers who are safe at any speed they chose. Maybe what we trully need is some skill test, rather than giving everyone a license. Then let people drive at whatever speed they choose. Also, I remember reading an article which said there are fewer accidents on the autobahn in Germany than on USA highways. Does anyone have a link to that? The autobahn allows for driving at any speed, and people usually drive at over 100mph.
How many people would risk running from the police if they knew jail time was manditory for speeding? But unlike the people on the show Cops who have an IQ of 70, if you're in a Ferrari you have a good chance of getting away. I remember an urban legend I was told about 10 years ago by a fellow car enthusiast. He had family in California and went to visit them. While in California, there was a news story about the police trying to catch/find a black Testarossa. The owner liked to drive at night, and when he passed a police officer with radar, the Testarossa owner would make a circle for a second pass, but he would turn off his headlights and speed by at 150+ MPH. He would then pull off and watch the police car turn it's lights on and go whizzing down the road, chasing a ghost. He had a police scanner in his car, so he would listen to the police talk on their radio's as they searched for the ghost Ferrari. I wonder how many people in this forum would do something similar if the possibility of jail time existed. Would you turn off your headlights and make a run for it? The penalty for running can't be worse than 6 months in jail, so what does the guy have to lose?
Wake up!, not this again! sound familiar? same old crap, don't get sucked into this yet one more time.
Years ago, a friend of mine, Jerry Donald Greene, had a little game he'd play: go into Berkeley, find a cop, and see how many he could get on his tail, before he left. He'd use the pedestrian overpass of highway 80 to ditch them. This was in the 70s. Greene was an up and coming star in the AMA, and was probably the best rider that this country had seen in the 70s (yes, I know about Robets, but Greene was better). He talked me into participating once or twice, but I thought it was way to risky, and stopped. They finally caught him, and he's still driving on his Donald Jerry Greene license. Art
Be careful speeding in Virginia...the only punishment for speeding that has not been used yet is the death penalty or a public flogging
The point is less about being a hypocrite than about taking your punishment and not weaseling out of it. Having some fun when no one is around is fine, but you have to know the consequences of your actions and not be afraid to accept them.
Wow that has to be the most moronic thing I have ever read on these boards, granted I havent read a lot but dam thats just sad. Anyhow, I think its incredibly sad that money still buys freedom in this world, IMO the guy before you should either get the same punishment as you, or you should get the same punishment as him. Blazing down a public road at 140 is ridiculous as I highly doubt you are trained well enough to drive at that speed on a public roads notice I said public and not a smooth perfect tracks with other racers To me its just like pointing a gun two feet to the right of someone and pulling the trigger, granted you didnt shoot him or her put you came to close for comfort. I can honestly say that if someone blew past me at 140 mph with my wife in the car I would promptly catch them at a red light, pull them out of the car, beat their ass, and then take their car for a joyride lol.
Ain't that dam'n right? Buy this car in the pic and there won't be a thread like this...! Speedman Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
