Happy Holidays!! Can anyone recommend a shop for a PPI for a Boxer in Montreal? Thanks
-John Scotti -Auto Bugatti -Luigi's - Former Ferrari of Quebec (Ask fellow member Bernardo for referral if possible) -Ferrari Of Quebec These are just the obvious. But I am sure there are one or two more. Good luck!
Yeah right!!!! With my luck, Luigi will probably blast the guy for even thinking of possibly looking to even remotely considering buying a Boxer. ...and this is if he even LETS you into his shop. I think I would have better luck getting Pope Benedict XVI to do the PPI.
What Boxer is it? Where is it? Since there aren't that many in Montreal, it might be a car that some of us know of.
Yeah? KDS sweet-talked Luigi into agreeing to do a PPI on a Boxer for me a few years ago (with a Vancouver Italian referral). But the deal fell apart long before we got to the PPI stage - so never confirmed. Being a wiser Fcar owner now, rather than a wannabe, I'd bet he'd of just done a 20' visual PPI on the car I was interested in, before passing judgement though . I've not met nor talked with Luigi (or Pope Benedict XVI for that matter). I'm guessing this is a car from the "Boxer King", being Montreal and an out of province buyer?
It's from who I first guessed http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?p=136341170#post136341170
Yes they do, except for Luigi, he passed away last year and his place is closed. However, most of Luigi's customers now go to Ralph at Monaco Prestige who is by far one of the nicest people I have ever met and the cleanest garage I have ever seen. His rates are, quite frankly, a joke in the Ferrari world and he knows his stuff. www.monacoprestige.ca I am......no affiliation.....blablabla
Would / has anyone gone to Ferrari Quebec? I'm surprised, but they did say they do PPI's. I didn't think Ferrari Dealers did them for cars not bought threw them.
There are many schools of thought when it comes to where to send your F-car... Everyone has the right to choose to go where they feel most comfortable. It all depends on what you want out of your experience... FOQ does in fact do PPI's on F-cars... They are not going to turn away a potential service customer... My F-cars are FOQ affiliated, meaning they were bought there, with full service history, I service my car there and when it comes time to sell, mine will be the cherry car to buy, no stories.... That's how I see it.It comes at a price, but at least the next owner knows exactly what he/she is getting and not have to worry about whether the mechanic built his own parts and put them into the car ! So, with regards to the 575 being serviced, the customer is saving $2500 bucks to risk a $40-50-60K engine if it blows cause the homemade rad let go.... Madonna santa... BTW, Ferarri does not make 575 engines anymore. Just my $0.02.
Lino, you bring up valid points but sometimes Ferrari is the worse place for sonething. Take, for example a 355 radiator: the one by Ferrari costs 1200$ and is a plastic total piece of crap. When came time for a replacement, I got one from a small company called Saldana racing totally made in aluminium and was 200$ cheaper. I'd feel a lot more confident telling a buyer that I put one of those in than another oem Ferrari rad. Same goes for headers, exhaust, cats, tensioner bearings, clutch bearing, etc...
I agree, but you are talking about aftermarket parts made by companies that have tested and proven their products and stand by them with a warranty. The post about the 575 in service for a clutch and rad job mentions that the mechanic made his own radiator.... If we're talking about Hill engineering parts, Bosch , Tubi etc... fine , but not homemade stuff. You could never convince me of that. Besides, how many documented failures of radiators in Ferarris are there?? Not many, in fact a lot of cars 10 to 30 years old are still bone stock original, so some parts can't be that bad....
My stock radiator lasted 33 years. And when it was rebuilt a few years back, it wasn't in all that bad of shape.
AH... just so you know.. Elio is the ONLY "MASTER" Ferrari technician in Quebec. there are no Master technicians at FOQ.
Results?? Reason I ask is when I had asked Elio to do a PPI on a 360 I was looking at, his idea of a PPI was more of a quick overview which didn't give me a warm fuzzy... he had quoted me 200$ for his standard PPI which I assume was 2 hrs of work... didn't get into the details of what he was going to do and the deal fell through before I could bring it to him so I'm kind of curious as to what kind of information is returned from a PPI of his. DF
When I bought my second 360 at FOQ, I asked for a PPi and if memory serves, it took over 4 hours if not more and I got a detailed report from electrical to engine, suspension etc... In the end, I knew what I was getting.
To be MasterTechnician for a brand company, you have to pass almost every exam and formation there is. (courses you have to intend, online test). These courses and test are about new models, new technology, new engine, new transmission, electrical system etc...
So the techs at FOQ know nothing?? Have you been at the garage lately? There are two TR's getting an engine out service, a Daytona, 308's , BB512 not to mention all the latest models that they are servicing... Man they must be doing something wrong... If you are insinuating that the techs at FOQ are incompetent, the dealer would either be out of business or Ferrari Spa would be breathing down their necks... I don't see either happening ...Other techs that work on their own are probably very good and can service most f cars but they don't have the support from the brand house and most stop training on the last models they worked on while getting their experience at the dealer...
I haven't been to FoQ lately but I fully agree with what you just said. `Mastertech` is just a "titre", it doesn't mean your the best in the business. I'm sure at FoQ there're all qualified to do the job done. I'm not defending anyone here, I was just saying what Master Tech title means.
