Bridgestone will be the only tire supplier to F1 next year and come out with a new tire. I was just wondering whether that new tire has been already released to the teams for their recent testing.
And if not, do we know when that tire will become available?

I was thinking about Peter Sauber's comment that Ferrari will have an advantage next year since they're the only top team who will not switch tire suppliers. We know, that any F1 team starts developing its new car in mid summer. So I'm wondering whether the Scuderia might have gotten a bit of a head start from Bridgestone? Imagine if they had given the team already a test version of their new 2007 tire. The Scuderia would have had half a year of time to develop its car and suspension and aerodynamics for that tire.

    Food for thought?

    LOL

It is like testing a turn signal: Now you see it, now you don't. :)

Yes I posted this yesterday, but then the DB got corrupted and Rob had to reconstruct from a previous state where this message wasn't part of. Since this question matters to me, I reposted.

PS: I think the Sauber interview thread is gone as well. C'est la vie. :)

I'm not so sure anyone will have an advantage on tires.

I usually side with brand competition to make the breed better, but in this case, a single supplier may be a good thing.

It was looking like the F1 tire competition had entered the realm of shaving weight -- literally. The 05 Indy fiasco wasn't an isolated incident. Cars that needed to rely on mechanical grip were running out of tire. Massa's "flat spot" at Monza, on youtube replay, was a horrific shredding of rubber.

I suspect (hope?) that the new F1 tire will be heavier and lower performing than anything run in '06 --- but much safer.

There have been 3 tests so far this off season. All of the teams have run Bridgestones throughout. Bridgestone has been adamant that the tires are so different that Ferrari will have no advantage, and Felipe Massa has concurred. All the drivers are saying that their braking distances have increased dramatically and that the tires easily lock up.

Some of the teams complained that they weren't given equal contracts. Apparently BS had everyone negotiate in secret and it only came out after a team principals meeting that there were differences. Some teams were set to receive their tires for free while others were to pay a few million. The FIA then asked Bridgestone to be completely equal and fair.

Quite frankly I think all this "fair treatment" is unfair to teams like Toyota and Williams who made the jump early. They put in a lot of work last year to make the switch with the expectation of being better prepared for 2007. Now you have teams like Renault complaining that the move to slicks should be pushed forward, or the tire construction forced into drastic alteration just to eliminate their own disadvantage. In my mind, that would be fine in 2008, but not now in 2007. No one forced their partner Michelin to pull out for 2007 and as such nobody should do them any favors. If Shell pulled out of F1 would anyone expect the fuel regulations to change such that Ferrari isn't put at a disadvantage.

i think everyone will start from zero. i thought all the BS shod teams will have an advantage, but Trulli, as well as MAssa dismmised it....says in recent reports that the new tyres are harder and it's difficult to brake normally.

The huge December test was specifically to test the new tires.

Ferrari was admidtedly slower because they were testing in full race trim. These were the same tests in December where Lewis Hamilton blazed the timesheets.....

Has anybody tested the F1 Bridgestones yet?

I was hoping Ferrari or even Suoer Aguri would call me to test as the "regular" F1 drivers were on holiday break but sadly no one called.....:)

    Happy New Year to All!!!!
