Over the weekend I went for a drive with another F-Chatter and at the half way point we pulled over and noticed I had smoke comming up from the engine. Quickly found that I blew a 4" rubber radiator hose in the front of the engine. Luckily the car never got over 195 before we stopped; and I had it towed. So should be no problems, but it appears that I have to remove the right intake to get to the hose. Bummer.

Anyway to the question- I found that I do not have the Tow Hook and that pulling a TR without it is not all that easy to do without damaging the body panels. Before going to the dealer- does anyone know a place to obtain this hook and if they are the same for all models from that era? 1990.

    Thanks,
    Bill

No, they are not the same. Strangely the TR uses the same size as a 360 (M16 x 1.5), while all the other cars use M16 x 2.0. The Hill Engineering TOW-02 would be the proper aftermarket item for your car.

I need a tow hook for my 550, so an M16x2.0 is what I need?
    Thanks,
    Ron

I'm looking for some information regarding the TR tow hook(s?). I just discovered that the opening in my TR front spoiler (~23 mm dia) is too small to allow the seating shoulder (25~26 mm dia) of the tow hook to pass thru.

The attached jpeg shows the dimensions of my existing TR tow hook and the other jpeg shows a '90 TR tool kit (that someone posted previously) which seems to have the same (with shoulder) tow hook.

I know that it wouldn't be rocket science to modify either the front spoiler or the tow hook (or get the Hill Engineering TOW-02 part that doesn't have the shoulder), but wondering things like:

    1) What's the diameter of the hole in your TR front spoiler?

    2) Is your (5-lug US) TR tow hook the same as mine?

    3) Was it something that the factory finished at assembly -- e.g. the front spoiler has an undersized pre-hole, and, after mounting the front spoiler to the chassis, a tool was/is used to cut a slightly larger hole that is (better) concentric with the threaded bung on the Chassis?

    Any comments/answers/info greatly appreciated.

Mine is the same on my 91 Tr I tried to use the tow hook and it would not fit in the opening. Also I do not have the trouble light that you have pictured. Where does it plug in on a TR?

Thanks for the feedback on your tow hook situation -- I guess they just got it "wrong" on the later TR. For you judges out there -- would you deduct a point if the tow hook actually fit? ;)

(Not sure why I need to know this ;), but) Does anyone have a jpeg of the Tow Hook used on earlier TR, and does it match the shape shown in the TR SPC illustration?

Look in the glovebox for the trouble light (IIRC, the SPC actually indicates that that is the proper stowage area -- not in the leather bag) -- the +12V aux. power socket (a.k.a. "electric socket C"), where it plugs in, is in there too (see pages 40 & 41 and Fig 25 in any US TR OM).

I looked in there for the socket and didn't see one ( that is where it was on my 348) I'll look again when I get home.
