The second piece of the puzzle was announced this morning.

SRT and Mopar Showcase Viper Possibilities at NAIAS
Tuesday January 9, 12:01 am ET

Custom Viper displays tweaks from Mopar Performance Parts – and 675 horsepower!

Farmington Hills, Mich., January 9 /EXCLUSIVE from viperclub.org/ -- Much speculation has been made since the first details were released on the 2008 Dodge Viper scheduled to appear this week at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Of course today is the day you were supposed to be reading about it, however some magazine editions hit the newsstands – and websites – a little earlier. Viper buyers, already giddy over the addition of a whopping 90 horsepower (yes, 600 total ponies under that revised hood) still had one nagging worry in the back of their minds: What about this long-rumored “Blue Devil” from the “other” American super car camp?

They needn’t have worried. In a surprise addition to this weeks show, DaimlerChrysler’s Mopar and SRT (Street & Racing Technology) Division have added a third Viper in concept form, joining the Venom Red SRT10 Roadster and Viper Red SRT10 Coupe with white racing stripes. Reminiscent of the SRT10 Carbon shown at SEMA in 2003, this latest Coupe variation showcases the many possibilities of this potent platform.

“We at SRT, along with our counterparts at Mopar Performance, wanted to build something for NAIAS that would show what can be done with the new '08 Viper,” said Steve Sharples, Viper Brand Manager at SRT. “This includes many of the new Mopar Performance parts which will be available for the car when it starts shipping to showrooms later this year.”

The Mopar Performance Parts featured are:

    - Tubular Exhaust Header Package
    - High-flowing, Cat-Back Exhaust System
    - Low-restriction, functional Cold Air Intake System
    - Fully adjustable Coilover Suspension Kit
    - "Sidewinder" Lightweight Wheels (with anodized finish)

And don’t forget the “Racing” in SRT, as they added these race-inspired parts as well:

    - Titanium Valves and Connecting Rods
    - Cast Litex Pistons and Lightened Crankshaft
    - High Flow Intake Manifold with Polished Upper
    - Carbon Fiber Coil Covers and Crinkle Black Valve Covers
    - Adapted Dodge Viper Competition Coupe Rear Wing and Front Splitter
    - Michelin Racing Slicks, 18" in front and 19" in back
    - 6 point racing restraints
    - Viper "Driver's Stripe" paint scheme

The results? Well besides one of the most stunning Vipers ever to greet the public, it also satisfies the Viper faithful. With a few Mopar Performance parts and some additional internal engine tweaks the car makes an incredible 675 horsepower, with the torque climbing even more – from the impressive stock 2008 number of 560 ft lbs to a mind-boggling 650 ft lbs. You would be hard-pressed to find another exotic from any continent making those kind of numbers.

Will these modifications ever make it to a production car? SRT will not comment on future product. But if what is shown here can be done by visiting your local Mopar parts counter, we already like what we see. Blue Devil shmevil!

    Thanks for Posting this AJ.

Good looking car save the funny stripe.

675bhp in a street car is simply amazing.

You're welcome. And the stripe...not sure. I think they wanted to do something to distinguish the car from the run of the mill 600HP car.lol.

Also, my great sources tell me that you can order this car through your performance friendly dealer. He gets the Dodge/mopar parts...and installs on the basic car. Supposedly...over 70% of the parts added to this car will be available at the time the '08 hits the streets.

I also think it is interesting that we are seeing slotted rotors on a good number of street cars now.

For many moons all I heard was that they are a "bling" item but I always would get them anyway as the car always felt better after being flogged over and over.

Now Aston's and Vipers are coming with them? Hmm..

Drilled rotors realy have no function other than loooks. "bling"

Slotted Rotors help disipate heat and fade quicker and remove more elements of "dust"

    Slotted are "functional"

Love the looks of it compared to a "regular" Viper, awesome wheels too....but yes the stripe is lame.

    But still, I'd pass.

I'm not a big fan of Vipers, but I love that car. The two tone color scheme looks great.

I think that car is great, but I'd be a little worried about having a dealer install the above parts. It would be nice if you could just order it from Dodge with those parts already fitted, then have your dealer install the external modifications.

Only select performane oriented dealers...like those with racing teams...will do those installs. The rest is mainly bolt-on.

This car will MOST LIKELY be available in '08 from the factory. Takes a little while to get things going. However I am fairly impressed that 70% of the upgrade parts will be available when the new Viper hits the streets. Dodge has made a major committment to make GO FAST performance parts available for their new Viper. They are making a major effort to give the Viper owners many options. Bolt-ons, internals, suspension, slicks...cool stuff for me.

How has nobody mentioned how the new 8.4 liter car will fair against the Z06..the Z is lighter, I suspect the Dodge will outpull it, but maybe not by all that much?

The mags haven't tested the 600HP car yet. Dodge states about 3.5 0-60. My great sources tell me a 3.3 0-60 and sub 11.5 quarter mile times will be the story....for the 600hp car. Drivetrain loss will come in around 11%, making RWHP at around 535. There will be a weight savings of almost 100lbs from the '06 car...bringing it in around 3325. Eliminating the cross-over, ditching the run-flats and the heavier rims needed to support the run-flats is over 100lbs alone. With the new good tires, new rearend set-up...the car will launch. I suspect that the Motor Trend guys will get a nice 11.3 or so from the car...in the upcoming issue. Look for a top speed in the +200mph range.

And don't forget that the following 3 Mopar bolt-ons, which have already received a part number, will add right at 50 ponies on top of the 600. I'll take 2...one in Snakeskin Green and the other in what I like to call "Plum Crazy purple".

    -Tubular Exhaust Header Package
    - High-flowing, Cat-Back Exhaust System
    - Low-restriction, functional Cold Air Intake System

NO question, this car is awesome, and weight savings is nice to see instead of gains! Now all they have to do is make it sound good and its set! Incidentally, I love that new venom red!

That is the best looking viper I have ever seen. 600HP from a totally stock car that will most likely cost less than 100k is just beautiful. What a great time to be a car guy. I can't wait to see some performance figures on this baby. Ditching the runflats alone will make a big difference on a track.

Yes. I heard in engine dyno runs last month that 615-618 was the norm. The torque had to be much higher than the 560 reported...no doubt. More good news!!
