  1. When Dallara left Lamborghini, did he go straight to DeTomaso and design the chassis for the Pantera?

To De Tomaso to help with competition. Not sure aout the Pantera's chassis...

  3. Yep Giampaolo Dallara designed the Pantera chassis. Tom Tjaarda designed the body. I just found this, in the book DeTomaso the Man & the Machine, page 127.

"The suspension geometry had been laid out by Giampaolo Dallara, who had joined Detomaso from Lamborghini specifically to design Detomaso competition cars, notably the Formula 2 and Formula 1 machines. The same young man, acknowledged as something of a chassis design genius, had also been responsible for the transverse mid-engined Lamborghini-Miura, and has also been credited with the chassis design of the Lamborghini-designed BMW M1 supercar".

I think one of the BEST chassis Dallara ever designed is not even the Miura, Pantera or the BMW M1, but the all-conquering World-Championship winning Lancia Stratos :-0
...and how many times has his Indycar-race chassis won the Indy 500? The man is a chassis genius.

The dark blue Miura was the first one i ever saw, i was 15 years old and it blew me away even though at the time i was a huge Countach Fan (in fact i still am a huge Countach fan)

    Alan,
I know the last car (Giallo Verde/VAB11G) quite well. Its Mark Rigg's former P400, modified to look like an SV.
    Nice images, thankyou for posting.

Yes i believe the magazine supercar classics (although it may have been another publication) followed the restoration and conversion to SV look.

    I know.... :)
This P400S was originally painted Blu Lancia (Lancia Blue), but in the crime of the century, the current owner re-painted it 'resale red'...! (just kidding, Jon)

Check out those platform shoes & bell-bottomed trous'..... Oh-so-groovy man! Multi-colored jacket, permed hair - wicked! But wait, uh-oh, looks like another Miuras' caught fire and is about to burn to the ground! LOL.....somebody better tell this dude quick!

Pick up copy of the February 2007 European Car (out on stands now) and read Editor Les Bidrawn's page 6 Editorial. He says some all-too-kind things about yours truly and Miura SV 4884, and he points to a summary of that epic studio shoot at www.europeancarweb.com
The actual article will be featured in the next issue of European Car. Please enjoy these behind-the-scenes images of artwork in progress.

I saw this P400SV 10 years ago in Southern California and I note how little it has changed (as of 2003 anyway).
Even back then, it had the Countach QV mirrors, the early Lamborghinis' steering wheel horn buttons inserted into the base of the three-eared wheel spinners (a popular non-original "jazzing-up" thing Miura owners like to do), the obvious repaint without the satin-black headlamp surround trim, and the side sills in non-original dark grey. I even note the lowest of the six engine bay slats (venetian blinds) still being squashed flat rather than the curved disposition it should have, and the gold rear badges. Amazing, these cars are like people with character traits and can be recognized instantly if you know what to look for.
Whatever its cosmetic points of interest, this is a genuine P400SV, a variant for which silver works quite well.

Joe - status update on remanufacture of Pirelli CN12s: yes? no? Maybe? This was Jan 2005 news, so something should have happened by now.

I've got plenty of Z-rated tires that will fit my car, plus a set of rather old CN 12s, but the rubber is not getting any newer !!!

Pirelli never responded to the campaign for tires and their production remains wishful thinking. Some of us saw the writing on the wall and set aside a set or two...

I just heard that the one and only Miura Roadster sold for just north of a MILLION dollars!!

I believe that is the first Lambo to hit or break the million dollar mark.
