Nice! Well then an offical welcome from me Arthur At least your team is still in, mine got knocked out in the first round I was helping the previous owner of your Silhouette put a fair number on it since I recently sold my well known show winning Silhouette. If you need any info help with the restoration just let me know. I have owned 4 Countach's over the years the Silhouette and a Murcielage. I am working a deal to buy a white 79' Countach, so I would love info and pictures on yours when you get a chance. Here are a few pics of my old Silhouette. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST JOE AND OTHERS As of now Im at my home in Florida for the winter with my new to me espada here in the garage and the Silhouette about a half hour away in a friends wherehouse. As such I can get good current pictures of both cars this weekend and post them in short order. The countachs are up in Philly and I will be going there in the next few weeks if the eagles (my football team as i grew up in philly) stay in the playooffs When Im there I will get a bunch of photos and any info you guys would want or enjoy STATUS OF THE GROUP: The espada: is a keeper for sure because of its one off specification, history with intenational car shows, famous owners, Monaco pace car, and the fact that grace kelly was my grandmothers 1st cousin, a family piece if you will. The Silhouette: i just got the car, i bought it in a group of cars really to get the first ever Prototype Maserati Ghibli 4.9ss spyder, in addition got a Bora and a 1942 Cadillac convertiable. ANYWAY THE THING NEEDS WORK AND ALTHOUGH I LOVE THE LOOKS, THE SOUND, AND THE RARITY, I JUST WONDER IF I WOULDN'T RATHER JUST GO BUY A PERFECT ONE AND AVOID THE HASTLE? TRUTH BE TOLD I DO REALLY LIKE THE CAR THOUGH, HELL I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND IT IS A CONVERTIABLE!!!!!!!! THE WHITE LP400S1 THIS CAR IS SICK, my school boy poster dream to reality. It is a very special car in white on white with bravo wheels and no wing. The car was built with a factory tuned motor and all i can tell you is that i think the thing is as fast as my qv downdraft! The mechanicls are insaine but it needs a cosmetic restoration and I would greatly appreciate any and all help to keep it original in the process THE BLACK ON BLACK QV DOWNDRAFT AGAIN I LOVE THIS ONE ALSO, it is a perfect "bookend" to my white/white S1. It is original EVERYTHING! I'm the second owner and the car has 18,000 miles from new, when I bought it from the original owner seven years ago it had only 15,000 miles. The car has original paint, leather, carpets, alpine radio with manual, factory books, the whole deal. It even has two sets of pirelli p7r's and two sets of factory gold wheels! I bought the car when I was very young and there have been many times when I should have sold it but did not, as such it is now almost a game to me to see how long I can hold on to it. THIS THING IS A MEMBER OF THE FAMILY AGAIN THANK YOU ALL FOR MAKING ME NOT FEEL ALONE WITH MY LAMBO/COUNTACH OBSESSION AND IF I COULD GET ANY HELP ON HOW TO RESTORE THE WHITE S1 OR THE Silhouette I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT In the meantime look for pics of the espada and Silhouette after this weekend and as for pictures of my "BAD BOYS 1&2" lets all hope for the eagles to be good boys! Many thanks, Arthur
Arthur, tried to sent you a PM. Please contact me offline regarding both Maseratis: [email protected] Thanks. Ciao! Walter
Arthur, Indeed thanks for sharing, and thanks for the image and chassis number of your QV so Glen can update the Registry. In lieu of images of the white '79 Countach S S1, please let us know the chassis number of your car (which for such a 'special' car I am sure remains etched in your brain...). Its livery as described by you reminds me of a particular long-lost car. Its very inportant to fill in the gaps of chassis numbers missing on the registry. You can see that on this thread 4-litre Countachs of the early variety spawn a great deal of interest. Oh, and everybody on this thread is kneeling nightly in solemn prayer for the aforementioned Philadelphia Eagles. Go Eagles, Go Eagles...... Joe www.lamborghiniregistry.com
Dear Joe and others, Thank you for your continued interest in the cars. Specificlly it seems as though the hot ones are my countach's Anyway a bit of history on both cars: The black QV Downdraft was originally owned and bought new by Martin Snow. He was a stock broker in New York who bought the car new in NY and had it there from 1986 until about 1991 or 1992. At that point he moved from brockering stocks in NY to move, "across the pond" as they say, to London England where he traded bonds, taking his countach with him! Martin Snow remained in england with the countach for several years having it serviced at Portman. In 2000-2001 after 14 years of ownership Martin put the car up for sale through Coys auction house in London. I saw the car advertised and contacted the auction house and bought the car sight unseen in cash before the date of the scheduled auction. I did this because at the time the dollar was 50% stonger to the pound and the euro as it is today. As such the car cost me $48,000!! I new the car was black and had the wing and gold wheels but had no idea about it being a downdraft until a month after I bought it when the shipper sent me some pictures, I fell on the floor and cried, litteraly. Long story short the reason I know the cars vin by heart is because when I went to get the car back into the usa it was a disaster. I had the original NY title, the original NY liscense plate, metal tag on door jam, and even the heat reflective silver sticker in the engine bay but here was the problem: When the car was titled new it was a miss print of 6 LA12888 and not GLA 12888! As such I had to go through so many hoops of fire one can not even imagine to proove my car is, was, and always has been a usa car. In the end I had to get a physical tracing of the vin off the car and supply it with a notorized letter to the dmv to correct the problem and get a new title in the name of the original owner, Martin Snow not myself, showing the correct VIN of GLA not 6LA. Then i had to import the car in Martin's name and then once it was here in the usa transfer the New York Title to my name and in PA as the second and current owner. As such I WILL NEVER FORGET GLA12888! With the VIN # of the white S1 car in mind Im sorry, its a car that I bought when no one cared about the older cars and it was not "the big one" with 4 valves or the anniversary package so in short I do not know the number off the top of my head, I do promise though I will get it, take a picture of not only the car but the vin plate and post them both. I can tell everyone this though; that is the fact that the car is one of the first 50 or so built and it was built before the cannonball car. I know this because about two or three years ago while up in PA I compaired it to the registry and it was an earlier number than that of the cannonball car. Can anyone explain to me why that list used to end at the cannonball car and now has another 100 cars added? Many thanks, Arthur PS Thank you all for supporting the Eagles!
One thing I like about the LP400 is that it is free from controversy, and everybody knows when they were made and what they look like. There is no mistaking this iconic car or its heritage... Enjoy. Wow Joe fantastic i just love rare lp500 pictures were do you get them?! i always thought all the pictures were already out there somewhere, but you keep producing new lp500 shots.Great stuff keep it up. I think i already asked you, but you dont have any shots of the prototype with its lights up do you?
Actually, its not such a mystery at all.... but sometimes in life you have to defer to other people's opinions and logic on a subject matter. Thats exactly why the extra 100-odd cars were added on the registry as S1 cars. The registry is a current recording of all the cars built, but if owners have done research themselves, the registry is duty bound to listen and accomodate those thoughts. Since it is unlikely that documentation will ever surface that PROVES that S1 cars werer only 1978 & 1979 production, we will likely leave it this way. But, all things are possible and I would feel more comfortable owning a 1978 or 1979 car IF I cared abouit referring to it as a S1 car. Personally, Im not entirely convinced that 1980 & some 81 cars are S1 cars, but if nothing else, the change shows how democratic the registry is!! Joe
