Well after finishing the 'sticky' cleanup on the new 355 Spider, I found myself with some time on my hands over the holiday, and THAT'S always a dangerous thing - I'm not one to sit around much.

So, I decided the garage wall was just not a very nice backdrop for the 355 - given it was "builder's off white" with an accent of random scuff marks.

Three coats of a white base and SEVERAL other colorful coats later (e.g. the black Prancing Horse took 5 coats!), and here's what I ended up with. It's all hand painted except, obviously the brushed aluminum Prancing Horse toward the front. Pardon the pixelation of the lines - they're straight in real life!

I know it's a bit much, but it sure brings a smile to my face every time the garage door goes up!

For those that like the details, I'll throw in a few of the 'along the way' pictures.

The rest of the garage and the garage floor will have to wait for warmer weather.

    Thanks for the comments.

The rewarding piece was that I designed it on the computer first and it ended up coming out identical to (if not better than) the design on the computer - usually it doesn't work that way for me.

The one thing I'd suggest strongly is to design it on the computer first. I changed SEVERAL aspects of my design once I saw it laid out. It made the "what if I added" process much easier.

Picture #2 pretty much shows the entire wall. Now the rest of the garage, now that's another story... still that "builder's offwhite with an accent of scuff marks" - at least until spring when the entire garage is scheduled for an overhaul (walls, floor, shelving, etc.).

There's something about the introduction of a 5-year old into the equation that changes all the dynamics in the garage! Fortunately, he loves and respects Ferraris.

I was so proud of my first home I did the garage ceiling texture stamping a pattern of twin horse shoes with an outline of Texas...

    Covered the whole ceiling!

When I parked the first Ferrari in it my wife threw me out and divorced me..

HER garage now has a pattern of horse shoes and............

That looks real nice, brudda....the term is 'supergraphic'!!

Let's see, NJ is a lot closer to home. It's going to have to be REALLY GOOD beer to justify the trip to California! (That's assuming of course that I'm getting AT LEAST the same beer offer for the CA job!)

I used the brushed-aluminum horse to trace the pattern on the yellow background, and then painted the horse from there. The lettering was a bit trickier - especially the 'S' and 'F', as I had to create templates. I didn't have a matching font for those letters.

There are no decals on the wall. Everything is painted with the exception of the aluminum sign toward the front of the garage. The primary time-burner was the number of coats required to cover. Everything was AT LEAST three coats, and the Ferrari letters and Prancing Horse were more like 5 coats.

As mentioned in a previous post, if you are going to do it, design it first on the computer - it helps A LOT. You can download the Ferrari font. If you have a problem finding it, let me know and I can go back and dig up a link.

Because I only tackled the one wall, I was able to move the 355 to the other side of the garage and my wife graciously moved the Lexus out doors for the duration of the project.
