I don't think Gothspeed's answer is correct for a 1995 Spider. According to Bluemel's book:

"On 348 tb/s models the front spoiler section, sill panels, lower rear tail panel and the solid section of the engine cover were finished in matt black. With the introduction of the 348 GTB/S these features all became body color, an update that initially had been introduced on the US limited edition Serie Speciale."

The Serie Speciale was introduced in the US in 1993, so most 1993's and all 1994's and 1995's should have solid body color on the rear engine lid, no matt black.

The original poster said he'd seen 348s that had black/red engine covers, not that he'd seen '95 Spiders with that configuration. He was probably seeing earlier cars which, as gothspeed said, came red/black as stock.

 

And then you have this custom option as well
