Here is a 2002 Rossa Corsa / tan 360 spider, 5K miles, that looks very nice in the pictures. The tan daytonas have nice red inserts and piping that really define their shape. Owner is asking $175K firm. It has not had a belt service, but several oil changes. Is that a fair price?

Also, it has a Capristo exhaust. I know there are lots of exhaust threads, but this scares me as he said at high RPM, you can hear it for miles - am I asking for trouble with neighbors / police? If I get this car, I might be selling the exhaust if its too loud.

Stunning car. Love the interior and those wheels. I'd push to get the belt done (it's due) at that price. Otherwise, factor in a $5-7 grand off of the asking price at least. Defly have the car inspected by dealer and make sure all CEL codes are read.

F cars are defly loud, even stock. I'm sure you can find a stock exhaust to swap if need to. If it's not driven daily, I don't think you should be concerned about neighbor and police. It is street legal unless the capristo is a loud one that is for track only.

Beautiful car, though I've noticed this one for sale for quite some time. Make sure there was no repair work done. As far as Capristo, I don't think you'll have a problem. Most 360 owners (including myself) recognize the need for something more than the boring factory exhaust.

As far as belt service, recognize that Ferrari recommends replacement every 3 years or 30,000. At the shop I use (ferrari dealer in PA), they have never seen a belt break, though many times the issue is slippage. While I would recommend you have it done, realize it is not more than a $2,000 job.

Check to make sure service records are clean.

Otherwise, beautiful car which is probably a consignment deal if he's been sitting with the car for so long.

    Good luck!

I have the same car (year, color, options, miles, condition) except not an F1, for sale at Steve Harris Ferrari in Salt Lake City for $169,950 including the 30K service. Most people will pay more from a Ferrari dealer than a private party because of after purchase problems. Private party price for this car with the 30k service should be around $160,000 and through a Ferrari dealer $170,000 max with the 30K service. If you want the same car in a manual, call Harris Ferrari or email me at [email protected].

This seems right to me too. $175K seems quite high.

Thanks for the tips. I bought the car last night for a few K less (to compensate for belt service). I am quite happy with my decision. This is the 5th car I have bought on ebay. I looked for 7 months or so for a 360 spider and was originally looking for a titanium / dark interior, but when I saw this one it looked great. None of the rossa corsa dealer cars had the options of this one, I especially like the red inserts on the seats, so if I paid a few K more, I am ok with it. To me it was much less about price that finding the car I wanted since I plan to keep it for quite a while (and drive it probably 6-8K a year).

oh yeah, this is my first Ferrari. I have had several Porsche 911 varieties, so it will be interesting to compare the styles. I kept my 1998 993 cab (silver/black) as I love that car and it has been my frequent (non rain days) driver for several years with not a hint of a problem.

Congrats on the purchase. As you can see from my profile, I am an ex-Porsche guy and have had many other Porsches than the ones I list. You will not be able to compare the difference once you really learn about the car and find your "feel" in driving it. The Porsche pales in so many ways, including fit and finish.

Would love to hear your comparisons too.

Wow, that was quick. Please get back and let us know how it works out. Things like custom subwoofer, radar detector and some other "custom" things scare me. New tires already? 5,000 miles might be a bit early for new tires... but possible. The license plate frame says Domani Motors in FL a high volume reseller, how did this car get to a dealer in St. Louis from there? To me, there are some flags.

    Let us know...

It looks like a clean car, good luck with it and enjoy. I have the same car without the red inserts. but with a Tubi.

Bottom line - I spoke with the owner twice at length and in detail about the car (including the points you noted above), life, our successes, fun, other cars, real estate, etc. and I did not sense any BS so I went with my gut. I had the full history on the car, as well as faxed copy of title. That was enough for me. I would not have been in a positon to ever get a car like this if I did not handle many other deals in life with just plain old instinct and gut feeling. Ill let you know if it failed me this time, but for now I look forward to getting the car and some nice new england weather.

You asked us... and there are a lot of sharp folks here. Trying to help...

In my short time here, there are also a lot of teenage kids, college boys and posers throwing stuff like this up all the time, so I don't mean it as an insult. God, there was this one thread with 43 posts or something by a kid graduating college asking if he could afford and F430 on $85K a year... and it just went on and on...

Glad you have your bases covered. Hope all is well.

Thanks man, its fine, you raised some good points. I have been lurking here for a year and have maybe 30 or so posts now and you're right, there is a lot of BS here and there are also some very smart people here. That rifledriver guy and a few others are the "schizzle" - seems to really know their stuff. I also notice a wide range of personalities. Mine is the type to do some good due diligence, but at the same time I have a good tolerance for risk.

I figure the worst that might happen would be that the odometer was disconnected and the car has more miles that indicated (but I will probably put 30K+ on it before selling) and might need a clutch replacement. I was also tired of looking for a car and this is my present to myself before I turn 40 in March. As an attorney and business owner, if I totaled the hours spent here and on many car for sale web sites, ebay, etc, looking for the right car, I could have paid for the car probably twice over. The search was fun but was wearing on me, so once I saw the car that had the options, I just said myself enough fooking around, made a few calls, and bought it.

Yeah, you do get to know the folks and get a feel for who is BS'ing. There is a lot of junk and a lot of sketchy cars out there. I looked hard for 6 months... same thing, just got tired of looking and was picky. Found an 07/2004 production F360 Modena F1 with Tubi with only 1,000 miles. Pretty flawless, but I paid the price, $175K. Have been thrilled and haven't regretted it. But, it was from a dealer, they put me on their F430 waiting list (yeah, what an honor, some guy with a high school GED making $75K a year acting like he is doing me a favor). It was a dealer, still under warranty, looked (and was) perfect, so I said, just send it! Got really tired looking, so I hear you, man.

Anyway, good luck. Wish you the best. I am sure I'll see you around.

    John
